Police seize thirteen uninsured cars in Harlow

Crime / Fri 7th Mar 2025 at 03:43pm

IN a crackdown on uninsured vehicles, the Roads Policing Unit officers seized 13 vehicles in Harlow.

On Saturday 1 March, the team, alongside volunteer officers targeted uninsured vehicles across the district.

A spokesperson said: “As part of our work with the Motor Insurers’ Bureau under #OpScalis, the road safety activities also identified 29 motorists not driving in accordance with the law. Each driver was reported for driving offences such as being distracted by a mobile phone whilst driving. Something both dangerous and illegal.

This vital enforcement work means we can ensure road safety, keep the roads in #Essex safe for everyone and work towards reducing the number of killed and seriously injured collisions.

It’s illegal to drive an uninsured vehicle – whether it’s a car, van or motorbike.

“Make sure your vehicle is insured”.

The police do not have to establish that a car is uninsured after an offence has been committed. The insurance bureau have a data base of all cars insured and this data base is available to the police. The DVLA has a database of every car registered in the UK. Take one set of data , away from the other and you are not only left with a list of uninsured vehicles but the address where the vehicle is registered. Then send an officer round to seize the car. Its not rocket science?

13 uninsured cars seized. Unlucky for some. Why anybody would want to drive uninsured is a mystery to me.

Crack down on the food delivery drivers and riders. How many of them have correct insurance.

Uninsured probably means no valid MOT, so great news, get these unsafe cars and uncaring drivers off the roads.
