Harlow MP Chris Vince leads national campaign for Young Carers Week

Chris Vince / Sat 15th Mar 2025 at 11:53am

IN the eight months he has been an MP, Chris Vince has already developed a reputation as the guardian and the ambassador for young carers across the country.

Mr Vince often refers to a moment in his teaching career, where a pupil attended parents evening with his mother and father. They were both severely disabled. Mr Vince didn’t know and suddenly appreciated all the challenges in that young person life.

He was a great advocate as a councillor but now he has a national platform, he has really grabbed the opportunity.

This week has been UK National Carers Week.

Mr Vince has hosted groups all across the country. A group of MPs chartered a bus at Westminster and took young carers on a tour of central London.

He welcomed a number of groups including pupils from Mark Hall Academy.

He has spoken on the floor of the House of Commons.

Perhaps most importantly, Mr Vince led a Westminster Hall debate.

MPs from across the parties and across the country (North Ayrshire, Bexley Heath, Salisbury) all thanked Mr Vince for bringing the matter forward.

YH went up to the House of Commons to see Mr Vince make his presentation at Westminster Hall. It is only by observing a debate such as this, that you get a sense of how important the debate was and the regard that other MPs have for Mr Vince.

We also managed to catch Mr Vince as he raced between the main chamber and Westminster Hall.
