Football: Harlow’s FA Cup giant killing heroes return for special reception
Football / Sun 16th Mar 2025 at 10:55am
ON Saturday, Harlow Town welcomed back eight of the players from the squad that took part in a historic FA Cup run in 1979-80.

Firstly, well done to Ray Trowsdale, Phil Tuson and Colin Barratt for organising the day.
The run was very special indeed. It culminated in the great 1-0 win in the third round (replay) against Leicester City at the Harlow Sportcentre ground.
But here was so much more to it.
The players were given a rapturous reception at half time on Saturday.
After the game, they met with fans to reminisce and take photographs.
In between that, YourHarlow spoke to some of the players and asked them to look back on a historic cup run.
As we said, there was so much more to it than that historic night against Leicester City.
Fred Flack and Owen Griffiths
Ray Wickenden
Paul Fairclough and Peter Adnams
Neil Prosser
Vic Clarke
I went to both games against Leicester, the first game Harlow scored in the last minute through Neil Prosser to make it 1-1 t to send the thousands of Harlow supporters into wild celebrations. A truly brilliant day. I also went to Watford where Harlow went down 4-3, it was on Match of the day, the town was alive with Cup fever, great days.
Same here .l went to all those games and previous rounds. Seen 100s of top class games. Wembley several times but the best game l went to for the occasion, atmosphere and crowd was Leicester away 1-1. Treasured memories from a legendary Harlow side unlikely to ever happen again
Peter Twigg RIP
Great to see those old faces on Saturday. We were a very decent side back then as the cup run proved. Remember beating Margate & then Leytonstone before we finally managed to draw a League club in the 2nd Round. The interest & the crowds just grew & grew. My favourite memory was Neil Prosser's last minute equaliser at Leicester & the celebrations in the away end. We must also remember Tony Gough & Peter Twigg who played a big part & are no longer with us. RIP. Big thanks to Ray Trowsdale who organised the reunion & Phil Tuson & Colin Barrett for their knowledge & input. Well done lads. Should have been done years ago but well worth the wait.
Does anyone remember when and how Perer Twigg passed away?
