THE latest card of the all-weather campaign arrives at Chelmsford Racecourse on Thursday evening with a seven-race card.
The action kicks off at 5.25pm with a one mile and two furlong handicap in class six before the action comes to a close at 8.30pm as 11 runners take on a seven furlong handicap for three-year-old’s.

The first race of the evening sees a good field of 13 head to the start for the mile and a quarter class six handicap (5.25). Plenty are in with a shout here but this one can go the way of Global Resolve, a runner-up over course and distance back in November having since had a less than stellar spell over hurdles so is back in his comfort zone here. Tactical Control found only one to good at Wolverhampton last week and heads the main dangers here for the Ben Brookhouse team.
Paradoxical landed a four-time at Wolverhampton between February and March and found only one too good last time so is the leading contender heading to Essex for race two on Thursday’s card (6.00) for trainer Jennie Candlish. Shahbaz has been trending in the right direction in recent weeks and is feared most in this one.
A sharp five furlong maiden stakes contest is race three of the evening (6.30) and the Trevor Kent-trained Walnut looks the way to go here, third of eight on debut 23 days ago and showed plenty of speed to build on that encouraging start.
Five-time course and distance winner Sir Rodneyredblood is back for yet another spin at Chelmsford in race four (7.00) but he could be downed by Rebel Star, a low-mileage sort that was only a short-head second at Lingfield six days ago and has a pull in the weights here that could swing the pendulum the way of the Robert Cowell-trained runner.
The feature race of the evening comes in the fifth race as seven runners head to post for the one mile Cardinal Conditions Stakes for three-year-old’s in class two, which has a massive £51,540 top prize (7.30). The powerful John and Thady Gosden team send Detain here, a colt of considerable promise having scored twice at Kempton before getting stuck in the mud in the Group 1 Futurity Stakes at Doncaster to end last season but is back on the polytrack and looks the way to go. Yaroogh, from another high-powered yard in William Haggas, is the main threat if he can recapture his two-year-old form, which included four wins with one of them coming in a Listed French contest.
The penultimate race on the Chelmsford card (8.00) is a seven-furlong class five handicap which can go the way of the Jane Chapple-Hyam trained Nammos, a previous course and distance winner making a return after four months off, while the finale of the evening (8.30) can head to Hype Merchant, returning to seven furlongs which should suit after a disappointing fifth last time out having dropped down in trip but this looks far more his suitable distance.
