Volunteers clean up pond area at Sibneys Green

LIKE they did at Oakwood Pond, volunteers have worked alongside Harlow Council to clean up another green space for residents to enjoy, this time around the pond at Sibneys Green (off Commonside Road).

The area had become overgrown with the pond itself barely visible. The team has been working hard to clear away much of the vegetation to open the area up once again and clean out the pond. Since doing so, lots of wildlife from frogs and newts to waterbirds have been spotted there.
Work around the pond area will resume in the autumn, once nesting season is over and the pond wildlife has become dormant.

This is another great example of volunteers working together with the council to help renew our neighbourhoods and improve the town’s natural areas for residents to enjoy.
Thank you to all of those involved.
The area certainly needed tidying. But the area is prone to flooding. The trees and bushes on that hill have been removed. Destroying that habitat. It slowed the water enabling the pond to support the frog's and other wildlife. That need the water to enter gently. The water often floods from the pond near the gardens below. I hope that the drains near the pond and down onto Commonside Road have been cleared.
