Hundreds flock to the wonderful Potter Street Community Fete

Communities / Tue 27th May 2025 at 10:43am

HUNDREDS flocked to the wonderful Potter Street Community Fete on Bank Holiday Monday.

The weather held off (just) as people enjoyed a whole host of attractions on the green opposite St Mary Magdalene Church.

Some stalls like the Face Painting had long long queues whilst others had people in deep conversation such as the model boat stall.

It was also good to see our friends from Harlow’s Mens Shed.

And there were plenty of stalls where people could just browse

It was good to see the Potter Street Academy PTA there.

We are sure we all spotted a couple of Minions!

The central area was also busy, from music acts to line dancing.

The emergency services were also there.

It was also good to see Harlow MP Chris Vince, fresh from just running the Hatfield Broad Oak 10K. Heee he is joined by councillor James Griggs (Lab) and YH editor’s wife, Sally Casey.

And in the interest of balance, the Green Party were also out in force.

And when it was all over, and people had gone home, the committee then made sure that the lovely green was as perfect as they left it.

May we pay tribute to the Potter Street Fete committee, who work all year round to bring residents a very special event.

Here is David “Tetley” Taylor. Outstanding in his own field!

The Harlow Green Party were thrilled to have our stall of pre-loved books and toys on sale. All proceeds will be handed to the Potter Street Community Group once we have our final total. It was an amazing day, filled with fun and community spirit. A lovely reminder of events some of us were lucky enough to experience in younger days. Hugest thanks to everyone for organising, volunteering, selling, buying and generally turning up to make it the incredible success it was.

The Potter Street community has often been overlooked and undervalued by successive mp's and Harlow councils. Events like this is a timely reminder of the flats obsessed building that's going on at the moment, flats rarely build community. Well done to the organisers and all that took part.
