Harlow Palestine Solidarity Campaign rallies against arms sales to Israel
News / Mon 30th Jun 2025 at 07:09am

A LIVELY rally demanding an end to British arms exports to Israel took place in Harlow Town Centre last Saturday (28 June), attended by a cross-section of local residents.
It was organised to protest at the British government’s ongoing arms sales to Israel and Harlow’s involvement due to the fact the headquarters of Raytheon UK, which, according to the Campaign against the Arms Trade, manufactures Paveway IV bombs used by Israel and is a subsidiary of RTX (Raytheon Technologies), one of the world’s largest arms manufacturers. *
A Harlow Palestine Solidarity Campaign spokesperson said “I am sometimes asked: what has Gaza got to do with Harlow?
My answer is two words: Raytheon UK. Raytheon UK is one of the British companies that is exporting weapons technology to the State of Israel, and its head office is in Harlow. Raytheon UK has an outreach programme to encourage British schoolchildren to adopt a career in science and technology, while it exports weapons to Israel that enable the slaughter of Palestinian schoolchildren.
The spokesperson went on to say that the Israeli newspaper Haaretz had revealed that Israeli soldiers had been told to shoot at hungry Palestinians queuing for food in the Gaza Strip, and that a former Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, had said that “What we are doing in Gaza now is a war of devastation: indiscriminate, limitless, cruel and criminal killing of civilians. It’s the result of government policy – knowingly, evilly, maliciously, irresponsibly dictated.”
Other speakers at the rally criticised local MP Chris Vince for failing to speak out against his government’s “complicity in genocide”, pointing out that Israeli troops were being trained in Britain and the Royal Air Force was conducting surveillance overflights of the Gaza Strip on behalf of Israeli military forces.
Speakers condemned the State of Israel for unilaterally ending the ceasefire last March, and called for a complete cessation of all military, trade, tourism, and business links between the UK and the State of Israel until the blockade of the Gaza Strip is ended and the ceasefire re-established.
There were spirited chants of “Raytheon, Raytheon, you can’t hide, you’re involved in genocide”, “End the Gaza genocide, arms embargo now!” and “Free Palestine”.
The organisers of the rally pledged to organise further protests and activities.

Look at the state of them , have a shower guys you might be able to get a job .
Ryan you are looking at the British public. Also we haven't got any Dolce and Cabana shops in Harlow.
Well done for finding a large enough area of intact paving to gather on. When I last saw Broadwalk, everywhere was either dug up or covered in pigeon poo.
Look at them! How dare England sell rockets to Isreal to help them defend against Islamic terrorism.
Had the terrorist organisation Hamas not Kidnapped Raped and murdered the innocent Israeli people at the Pop concert then we wouldn't be in this situation,
A couple of former Harlow Labour Party members in the group, but none of the current crop that I know of. They rightly condemn Chris Vince MP for remaining silent, but he has also been silent on a number of other contentious issues such as grooming gangs.
This issue dates back to 1948 and the forced expulsion of 700,000+ Palestinians. However, it might be useful to read a respected Israeli human rights group's opinion of the Israeli government's policies over Palestinian land illegally occupied since 1967. The title of their 2021 article 'This is Apartheid' and was backed-up by Amnesty International the following year. The Amnesty byline is 'A LOOK INTO DECADES OF OPPRESSION AND DOMINATION. See both apartheid article links https://www.btselem.org/publications/fulltext/202101_this_is_apartheid and https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2022/02/israels-system-of-apartheid/
I forgot to say Chris Vince was chair of the Harlow branch of Amnesty International prior to last year's election, so his silence is all the more hypocritical. A live rally? Look at me in my finest tea towel round my neck virtue signalling. Let me tell you about your poorly informed selective human rights. The group who took the U.K. to court (and have now just lost) are Al-Haq. A "human rights" ngo based in Ramallah in the west bank. Now, before some of you fine upstanding professional protesters wonder off to your next lgbt or female rights protest of ten people, what human rights does Al-Haq stand up for in Gaza and the west bank? They do not stand up for lgbtq+ rights in the west bank and gaza. Nor do they stand up for the protection of women and young girls in the west bank and gaza. Why? because they have none within the west bank and gaza and that is ignored by Al-Haq. So when you start complaining about human rights for Palestnians, ask why Palestinians think the lgbt and females are not entitled to any.
Seamus, your argument about Al Haq needs some adjustment given the following Al Haq press release titled 'Palestinian Womens Rights Must be Protected and their Equality Promoted'. See evidence of press release at https://www.alhaq.org/advocacy/7346.html
Sick to death of these people.....GO AWAY !
There are no winners in war and conflict. Innocent people on both sides will be suffering. Raytheon is one of the few tech employers left in the town, providing local jobs. Regardless of which side you are on countries have the right to defend themselves. Having said that war and specifically religious wars of any type are abhorrent . The human race will never learn to live peacefully
I saw that David, did you notice it was from 2006? Did you read the article David It does NOT cover womens or young girls rights. All it covers is blah blah blah everything is the Israeli's fault. Try reading something that is honest about womens, young girls and lgbtq rights within Gaza and the West Bank and recent. https://www.gchumanrights.org/preparedness/gender-discrimination-against-young-women-in-palestine/. Or use any search engine and type in lgbt rights in palestine or the rights of women and young girls in Palestine. This idea of, if the war stops that women, young girls and lgbt will all be treated as equals and welcome in Palestine is the dillusion of those who are very selective, hypocritical and poorly informed. It is based more on the hatred of Israel than a true wish for a better life for ALL in palestine.
Everyone should have the right to voice there opinions sadly this is not the case in the UK.
Seamus, you might have noticed that the Al Haq article was republished in 2010. If you want something more up to date how about this year's Al Haq article on International Women's Day. It includes: "As we commemorate this important day, we reaffirm our unwavering support for the essential role that Palestinian women play across civil, political, economic, social, cultural, and national domains." See article at https://www.alhaq.org/advocacy/26028.html
Dave you got back to 1948 but if you go further back you will realise the land has always been Jewish land even well before Jesus Christ was born.
It was actually Judea until the Romans invaded it and pushed the Jews out! The Romans then named it Palestine to upset the Jewish land owners… do your history folks.
Jas, let's look at some history accepted by the British government which demonstrates that the Jews migrated to Palestine long ago, but were immigrants none the less. The Palestine Royal Commission published its report in July 1937. On page 2 it says: "In the course of the second millenium B.C. the lands that lie along the eastern coast of the Mediterranean were subject to periodical incursions of Semitic tribesmen pressing seawards across the Arabian desert from the barren steppes of the North. In Palestine these immigrants became known as Hebrews". See the Earl Peel led Royal Commission report at https://unispal.un.org/pdfs/Cmd5479.pdf
HAMAS is a terrorist organisation and government of GAZA voted for by Palestinians. Its abhorrent attack on October 7th with its Rape, Murder and Kidnapping started this. Take a look at Gaza as that is what happens when war happens - it is nasty, it is violent, you are enforcing your will on the enemies who's will must be broken, there is no genocide outside the insane left world. It is why we should avoid war as much as possible by being strong. As for Amnesty they are just another left wing group, they said nothing when government committed the largest crime it could in the UK of lockdown.
You just don't get it do you David? At every twist and turn you refuse to mention lgbt rights in Gaza or the West Bank. You only quote a source you know is more interested in hating Israel. Can I ask, has Al Haq ever confronted Hamas on the situation they created for the Palestinian people? I doubt it. Your own tooting popular front, when's the last time you criticised Hamas, Hezzbollah and Iran for the situation the Palestinian people now find themselves in. When has any of those you support criticised Hamas and said, just give the hostages back and this war will be over. I suspect you haven't because your hatred of Israel is more important to you than situation for the Palestinian people? Yes Ratheon are primarily an arms company but they also produce defence equipment, satellite services both military and commercial. I'll give you a list from their own website of countries that are customers. United States of America, The Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Taiwan, Greece, Spain, The Republic of Korea, The United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Romania, Poland and Sweden but the only country your little band are interested in is Israel because like Hamas, your group is more interested in hating Israel, than hating Hamas for causing this and continuing this when it is in Hamas's hands to end the war and end the people of Gaza and the West Bank. Yes our views are different and that's fine but lets have some honesty please. If any of your group are from the rainbow coalition or strong feminists, they are unlikely to be welcome in the West Bank or Gaza
Dave Arabs aren’t from judea or Palestine! Arabs are from Arabia hence the name Arab. Islam wants Isreal to have the Caliphate.
Where are the Jews supposed to go if they were kicked out of Israel , no one has mentioned that.
Ted great point. 55 Islamic countries only one Jewish country but yet they want them out! They can’t go anywhere else because it’s their land
Adams likes it when kids get bombed.
Jas also likes it when kids are bombed, go get hamas but leave the kids out of it
Dave - I do not like it at all, but when HAMAS use them as shields it is on Hamas, innocents are hurt and it is HAMAs fault.
That's my last point, work beckons.
It’s the result of government policy – knowingly, evilly, maliciously, irresponsibly dictated.” THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NONSENSICAL RUBBISH
