A BUSH Fair councillor has continued to put pressure on the council over signs in the local shopping area.
Councillor Kay Morrison has spoken to a a number of businesses in the area and they have all expressed concerns over a lack of signposts saying they are there.
Councillor Morrison asked a question to council leader Dan Swords.
Surely once you are in the local shopping area, you quickly orientate yourself and can see what shops are are there? Would signs pointing to every shop - 'newsagent this way and another newsagent that way' - Wouldn't that just be clutter? --- and I'm not sure how many people visit Bush Fair for the first time or need to be reminded on a daily basis? Has someone got a friend who has a sign shop?
Sounds like they want to waste money. You stand in the middle and see most shops.
Is this really happening, seriously stupid people we have governing us
Tim, unfortunately, I think the more stupid are those that vote for people like this who create solutions to problems that do not exist.
Still find it strange why a woman from quite a well to do area of Scotland with no apparent connections to Harlow suddenly decided to move to the area about the time of COVID and not long after arriving stands as a Labour councillor knowing nothing about the place or people?
Many other towns and cities have sign from the through roads (such as Southern Way) pointing to the "local shops" which are of course not obvious from the roads at all - especially at Bush Fair (unlike say Staple Tye). Therefore, a reasonable priced sign or two should encourage some drivers to stop and spend their pennies in the local economy benefiting us all in the long run. In the days of costly development schemes all around Harlow a bit of localism should be encouraged I would have thought!
The Bush Fair car parks are full. The single yellow lines are full
I agree with Cliff More, as you drive along Southern Way, all you can see are industrial units. For anyone passing by who is not local, they can only assume that Bush Fair is an industrial estate, not a shopping centre. So it's not such a stupid idea, Tom & RBL.
It cannot be that bad , you can't find a parking space in any of the car parks
Why mess with something that works? – Unlike the Town Centre, Bush Fair isn’t full of empty units. It’s a vibrant local centre with local shops that the locals need – What do the want a Gales Bakery and Waterstones and lots of artisanal independents that the locals can’t afford and then the rents too high for traders who’ve been there for years to afford? Some people just have to fiddle with things or put there mark on a place – Leave Bush fair alone!
Bush Fair has two car parks, each twice the size of the parking space at The Stow shopping centre.
Would some extra signs help Tony?
