Letter to Editor: Chris Vince’s silence on Gaza is anti-democratic

Dear Editor,
PEOPLE in Harlow who are deeply distressed by the continuing starvation and slaughter in the Gaza Strip may wonder what their Member of Parliament thinks about these horrors. No-one knows. For Chris Vince MP remains as silent as a Trappist Monk, and refuses to answer emails and letters from his constituents concerning this issue.

At least 133 of Mr Vince’s Labour colleagues signed a letter to the Prime Minister, dated 25 July, which called on the government to recognise a Palestinian state. We must assume that he was opposed to this call, for he did not sign that letter.
On 29 July Keir Starmer announced that the United Kingdom would recognise a Palestinian state in September, if the State of Israel did not take substantive steps to end the “appalling situation” in the Gaza Strip, agree to a ceasefire, and commit to a long-term, sustainable peace “reviving the prospect of a Two State Solution”.
Does Mr Vince agree with Mr Starmer’s proposal? Does he now support UK recognition of the Palestine Authority as a state? Has he, like a latter-day Vicar of Bray, found it personally beneficial to change his stance?
Two human rights organisations in the State of Israel released reports on 28 July 2025 stating that a genocide is occurring in the Gaza Strip.
“What we see is a clear, intentional attack on civilians in order to destroy a group,” said Yuli Novak, the Executive Director of B’Tselem. “I think every human being has to ask himself: what do you do in the face of genocide?”
The Executive Director of Physicians for Human Rights – Israel, Dr Guy Shalev, said that “Silence in the face of genocide is not an option”. He said that the US and European countries have a legal responsibility to take stronger action than they have done so far. “Every tool in the toolbox should be used. This is not what we think, this is what the Genocide Convention calls for.”
The UK has a military co-operation agreement with the State of Israel, trains Israeli troops in Britain, flies RAF reconnaissance flights over the Gaza Strip on behalf of the State of Israel, and allows the export of military goods to that country.
The UK is complicit in genocide in the Gaza Strip, but the MP for Harlow closes his eyes, sticks his fingers in his ears, and refuses to engage with his constituents. The silence of Chris Vince is profoundly anti-democratic. For if politicians refuse to say what they stand for, then voters cannot make an informed choice at elections.
In my opinion, those who do not condemn genocide should never be in any position of authority.
Yours sincerely
John Wake
Quite simply had the Terrorist organisation Hamas not Kidnapped Raped and murdered innocent Israeli citizens in the October 7 attack we wouldn't be where we are now If a terrorist organisation did the same to UK citizens I would expect our government to unleash hell on them also
Given that John Wake is not just one of Vince's parliamentary constituents, but was also one of Vince's constituents in the Hare Street and Little Pardon ward during his days as a councillor, you would hope a reply would not be unreasonable. It is purely a matter of common courtesy to respond to letters and emails, which demonstrates how arrogant and indifferent Chris Vince is. Roll on 2029 to get rid of him as MP.
The link to the Israeli human rights organisation B'Tselem's report 'Our Genocide'. Page 73 gives a good history of Israeli military action against the Palestinian people in 1948, 1967 and the 1970s: https://www.btselem.org/publications/202507_our_genocide
Israeli group Rabbis for Human Rights said in their 2024 report which was co-signed by 21 human rights organisations: "The humanitarian disaster in Gaza is a man-made and unjustified, even given the reality of war. Israel is responsible for this disaster, and there is an urgent need to investigate suspected war crimes and to implement Israel’s responsibility as an occupying power for the population in Gaza. Israel is still obligated to prevent the deaths and suffering of thousands of people." See report at https://www.rhr.org.il/_files/ugd/610b1f_903996046eec4fd2947f571e9b8b5160.pdf
As I have already reiterated time and time again. The world is looking on as Israels' government are 💯. responsible for mass war crimes.I don't worry about my post as my moral compass is sound. They are now talking about taking over the Gaza strip How arrogant!. They will keep provoking the Palestine population until they are wiped out .Our governments are not going to do anything. Appalling neglect of innocent civil basic rights. This fascist behaviour is indicative of how the Jews were treated in WW2. This saddens me completely. In 2025,after all we have been through with COVID..To see the perpetrator being the head of Israel .I do not believe in my heart that the Israeli people are really loyal to this barbarian their Prime minister. Even they have tried to protest in the past and he has attacked them. There is a saying 'Evil exists when good men and women do nothing.". I want this in print.I am prepared for the consequences of my words. History will look back at these words and actions of Netanyahu and know that by their silence they have been just as responsible as him for not speaking out and stopping him.In effect allowing him to continue these war crimes.
It is a great shame that the news is being stonewalled in this area.We have seen people that have been trying to highlight what is going on being slaughtered. It is a dangerous place with the BBC unable to report in the area Luckily, this has happened time and time again .So that people in the know don't even have to think to hard to know what is happening. Even though we have to keep an open mind . With the history of the Gaza strip. It doesn't take much thought to realise this is a Government blackout. While Netanyahu continues his wipe out. This is happening right under our noses. The Civil rights abuses of people and steamrollering of their homes continues. Ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people without anybody stopping Netanyahu. Little wonder that everyone is feeling totally helpless. Why is this behaviour allowed to happen without embagos He has taken all these lives without any conscience.
I am a lifetime labour voter, but I am so pissed by our government's inactions regarding ,Netanyahu and the IDF slaughter and starvation of innocent people, plus the obvious claim to their land.also this ball shit about arresting people for supporting the Palestinians, change that pathetic new law now and get on with what the people want, Your weight thrown behind getting the Israelis to stop this cold blooded murder.
