HARLOW Council is making the biggest investment in council housing in its history – £2.5 million every single week – transforming homes, speeding up repairs, and building a better future for thousands of residents claims Harlow Council.

This record £130 million investment for 2025–26 is more than double what was spent just five years ago and is a key part of the council’s Building Harlow’s Future plan, delivering on its mission to ‘invest in our housing’.

This unprecedented commitment is already delivering:

• Upgraded council homes with modern facilities and improved energy efficiency
• Faster, more reliable repairs that get the job done right the first time
• Quicker turnaround of empty properties so more families can move in sooner
• The largest programme of new council house building in over 30 years

Recent achievements include:

• Record low levels of outstanding repairs across the town
• Major upgrades to supported housing such as the Hintons scheme
• Over nine schemes of new council homes under construction for Harlow families – more than in the last three decades combined

Councillor David Carter, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
