London Underground strike continues

News / Mon 8th Sep 2025 at 12:36pm

LONDON Underground staff have continued a five-day walkout over pay and conditions. reports the BBC.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union are carrying out rolling action over pay and “fatigue management”, and have asked for a 32-hour week.

There will be limited service until 18:00 BST on Sunday and little or no service between Monday and Thursday. The Elizabeth line and the Overground are operating but are busier than usual.

Transport for London (TfL) has offered a 3.4% pay rise and said it “welcomes further engagement with our unions”, but said a reduction in the contractual 35-hour week “is neither practical nor affordable”.

Fire them all and automate the lines, enough being held hostage by communists in unions

Automated lines?? I would definitely prefer human beings to talk too. Services are stretched enough as it is. 3.5 is a reasonable rise with inflation rises ,food going up.Wages should be in line with stealth races too . Good wages produce ,a good workforce.

Stealth taxes not races.

Why are train drivers paid more than many commercial pilots?

Driverless trains would be the way forward here. The rmt have long been chancers and have always played their part in bringing down any labour government and making sure they don't see power again for many years. They are paid very well for a job that is becoming more automated anyway. By all means have people at the stations and on the platforms, but automated trains are a must as long as you have a union such as the rmt.
