CHARITIES, sports clubs, and community groups across Essex and Hertfordshire are being reminded there’s still time to apply for the Stansted Airport Community Fund’s (SACF) annual Flagship Award, worth up to £50,000.

The prestigious award is given once a year to an outstanding project within ten miles of the airport that delivers lasting benefit to local people and communities.

While applications for smaller grants closed on 8 August, the Flagship Award remains open until 30 September.

Cllr Maggie Sutton, Chair of the SACF, said:

“We really don’t want anyone to miss out on this unique opportunity, with only a few weeks left for local organisations to put forward their big ideas. The Flagship Award is designed to support a truly ambitious project, one that can deliver a long-lasting
benefit to local people and communities for years to come. We know there are many groups out there with inspiring plans, and we’d encourage them to apply before the 30 September deadline.”

Since its relaunch in 2023, the Fund has awarded more than £500,000 to local organisations, including sports clubs, wellbeing charities, conservation groups, and village halls.

In 2024, for the first time, the £50,000 Flagship Award was split between two projects: Molehill Green Village Hall (£30,000 to install a permanent electrical system) and The Parent Hood in Harlow (£20,000 to replace the roof of its busy family hub).

Lucy Johnson, Trustee at Molehill Green Village Hall, said:

“We’re over the moon about the £30,000 grant. Installing permanent electrics means we can keep running activities that bring people together. We’re so grateful for the support.”

Marika Opara, from The Parent Hood in Harlow, added:

“This has been a game-changer for us. A new roof means we can continue offering a safe, warm space for families in Harlow. We’re incredibly thankful to the Stansted Airport Community Fund.”
