Chelmsford Racecourse: preview and tips for Thursday’s eight-race card on the all-weather

CHELMSFORD hosts its latest card on the all-weather on Thursday with a competitive eight-race offering for punters heading to the track.

The meeting gets underway at 4.45pm with a class five maiden stakes before coming to a close at 8.15pm as a field of nine take on the mile and a quarter handicap in class five.

Read below for a full rundown of the Chelmsford card courtesy of Racing TV, who offer the latest free bet offers throughout the season.

Recent Goodwood runner-up Reader should improve for her doubt in Sussex and should go one better in Essex for trainer Marcus Tregoning in the opener at Chelmsford on Thursday (4.45). Afton, also a runner-up last time out at Brighton, rates the main danger if settling better than down on the South Coast.

Race two on the Chelmsford card (5.15) sees a field of nine head to the stalls for the class six nursery contest as the two-year-old’s take center stage. Oh So Perfect could be the way to go for trainer Charlie Fellowes, fifth at Wolverhampton 19 days ago but didn’t appreciate the drop in trip, so should find this return to six furlongs more suitable. Woody Y Fernandez is the next best, who has previously come close over this trip so enters the equation on polytrack debut for the Jennie Candlish yard.

A field of 11 runners will take on the novice stakes in class five, race three on the card (5.45) and this one can head the way of Applesandpears for the Ed Bethell team, a good second of eight in a Leicester novice on debut 16 days ago and should go one better with improvement expected.

Fouette made light of a 14-month absence when making a winning handicap debut at Southwell 23 days ago and James Horton’s filly could well be the way to go from a 6lb higher mark in race four at Chelmsford (6.15). Al Joory is the main threat here with some solid form in handicaps for trainer Roger Varian and was a winner of a Kempton novice back in May.

Race five on the card (6.45) is a class six handicap over the six furlong trip and none of the six runners can be ruled out. Ottawa should be bang in there for a maiden success with the cheekpieces fitted and bounceback from a poor seventh last time out when left badly placed. Amaysmont, a four-time course winner, holds obvious claims but will have to defy an 8lb hike in the weights.

Juno Star looks the way to go in the penultimate race of the evening (7.15) having cosily landed a handicap at Southwell a week ago and escapes a penalty for that success so can go back-to-back on polytrack debut, while the penultimate race on the card (7.45) can head the way of Must Believe, a winner last time out at Kempton who can make a bold claim to go once again.

Finally, the card comes to a close at 8.15 and Time Tested looks the way to go in the finale, a good third last time out at Lingfield and is a previous winner over course and distance as well so the Michael Bell-trained runner holds firm claims in the card closer.
