Football: Harlow Town Pirates finish season on a high

Football / Wed 5th Nov 2025 at 09:03am

HARLOW Town Pirates Walking Football Over 70s team played their final Essex Walking Football Cup and League matches in October and early November.

In mid-October, the Men’s Over 70s went into the Cup Semi-Finals in good spirits after some fine performances in September. However, in the initial League format they got off to a disappointing start by losing 0-1 to Norwich Soca and then to Little Oakley by the same score.

This meant that the third match against Grays Athletic was only played for pride as both teams could not progress further and Pirates secured a 2-1 victory.

In early November the team played their final round of League matches and went out on a high, by beating Barnet 2-1, drawing 0-0 with Leyton Orient and finishing with a 1-0 victory over Grays Athletic.

The seven points gained on the day moved them one place up the League table to finish in 5th out of the nine teams.

Pirates also entered a mixed team of women and men in a tournament at Bracknell. In a high standard competition, Pirates made a fine start by drawing 1-1 with Melksham and then defeating Maidenhead 3-1.

But the next match saw a 0-2 defeat to Watford, which meant that Pirates needed to win the final league match against Bracknell Red, but which saw them beaten 0-4 to exit the tournament.
