Another cretin off the streets. Well done to the police involved
Bl**dy immigrants coming over here and being violent. Oh, wait a minute.....
I'm glad I didn't try and take down one of his flags
I did hear that he is one of the so-called "Flag Men". Nice....
Someone should inform Mr Gage there are not many trees in the town centre and besides, Harlow Council are more than proficient in killing them off.
Brian Gage, local axe‑enthusiast and part‑time flag shagger, proves once again that the far right think waving a flag is a substitute for common sense. There he was, clutching his axe like it was a patriotic accessory as if the Terminus Street car park had suddenly become the Last Night of the Proms. The only thing he managed to defend was the honour of looking ridiculous: shouting at lampposts, scaring pigeons, and mistaking bunting for a political programme. If flag‑waving was a cure for stupidity, Brian would be the Florence Nightingale of Harlow. Sadly, he’s just another bloke confusing nationalism with DIY.”
As i said, a cretin.
I'm Harlow born and bred, now in my 50s. I've seen my children's education be negatively impacted by schools needing to buy 'English as a second language' resources. I've seen my children's chances of getting a council property diminished. I obey the law, don't have a criminal record, and respect the Police, who have a thankless task. I believe in stop and search. I'm not racist. I voted for Brexit because I believe in a common market but not a European state. I believe in controlled borders. I love my flag and love seeing both St George's Cross and the Union flags flying from lampposts. I support people who want to live their lives as a different gender to that they were born as, but there are two biological sexes, and biological women have a right to be protected in female only changing rooms as one example. I hate woke nonsense. We need to leave the ECHR so we can deport illegal immigrants and others who are not net contributors to the UK economy. Am I far right? I call myself 'the silent majority'.
Hi Anon. I spoke with someone last week who is not white and was completely distressed by the flags. They said it felt like a signal to them that they were not welcome here. They are scared to walk around the town because the racism online has increased and they feel that everyone hates them and doesn’t want them to be in Harlow. What would you say to them?
@New Town Dreaming, it is disgusting any human being being subjected to racist/homophobic/transphobic attack. I personally would report any of this activity to the police if I witnessed it. I would tell them that for every bad person you hear or see, there are 1000 good ones. If that person is an English/British National they should be proud of their flag. If they are not a British citizen they should respect their host's national flags.
@Anon They are a British citizen. The flags have not gone up in celebration. They are taking it in the hostile signal it is.
@New Town Dreaming, lets agree to disagree, but I take umbrage at those who think every person who enjoys seeing the flags have the same perspective in life. Elements of society will want the flags to be interpreted as hostile, but that doesn't include everyone who has put them up, or those who enjoy seeing them along the roadside. Throughout history unsavoury elements of society have frequently used their national flag as part of their identity. This doesn't mean we shouldn't display our national flags on behalf of the majority of law abiding, patriotic citizens. I sympathise with anyone who is intimidated by my national flags, but there is never a reason to not display them, anywhere in the UK, at any time. Most homes in the USA have a flag, and I believe the national anthem is often sung at the start of school each day. I don't, and I'm sure the rest of the world don't think that every American citizen flying a flag are racist. Our national flags need to be reclaimed if you like, and I believe the longer they remain up here, the more that is happening. Let flying our national flags become the norm and racists won't be able to use it for their hatred. Happy for you to have the last word, and grateful we live in a country where we can voice our differences of opinion.
