Chelmsford Racecourse: Preview and tips for Thursday’s Seven-Race Meeting

THURSDAY evening brings another high-octane all-weather meeting to Chelmsford Racecourse, where there is a seven-race meeting.
Read on for a preview of and tips for the Chelmsford card, brought to you by Betway.
Up first is a mile apprentice handicap (4.55). Kevin Frost’s Al Baahy seeks a hat-trick after two wins in January. Stepping down in trip, he avoids a big penalty and is given a handy seven pounds by rider Donovan Goucher. He should be competitive, but others are more attractive over this trip. Inner-most drawn Aim For The Bull is down to a tempting mark and should benefit from the step up from seven furlongs last time.

A six-furlong maiden follows (5.30). Richard Spencer runs a duo of newcomers; Tainted Love and Saddle Up, while Mick Appleby starts Silver Splash. All of these look bred to want further in time, so Michael Attwater’s Unionville looks the one to side with here, after a very close second over this trip at Kempton last time out.
Race three is a handicap run over the same trip (6.00). Mark Loughnane’s Coachello is on a competitive mark and ran a good race last time out at Wolverhampton, so could factor, but course and distance winner Dyrholaey is better placed in the weights and finished ahead of him that day, so looks the winner.
The fourth race is a handicap run over a mile and six furlongs (6.30). Ludo’s Landing is on an attractive mark now, while Haaland is entitled to improve on his recent comeback off a new low mark and could be worth an each-way play. Carlton looks a likely type here, given five pounds by rider Ashley Lewis.
Next is a three-year-old’s novice over seven furlongs (7.00). With three first-timers in the mix, who could have any level of ability, this will be a hard race to judge. There is an Amo Racing representative, though, who is worthy of some interest; Stay Salty, who debuted well enough at Kempton last month and has a promising pedigree, so could be the winner.
Second to last is a seven-furlong handicap for three-year-olds (7.30). Oh So Perfect is down in the weights since last time and could go well, but with George Scott’s yard in such good form, his runner Crimson Rambler is hard to ignore. If Crown The Future’s first-time headgear has the desired effect, though, he could be our winner.
The final race is another seven-furlong handicap (8.00). Tony Carroll’s Lequinto is intriguing from the inside draw, stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time in a year. Rod Millman’s Billy Mill, though, is competitive on this mark – provided he can leave behind his last run, which was too bad to be true.
