Harlow Council set to install new “Welcome to Harlow” signs
Harlow Council / Fri 13th Mar 2026 at 02:23pm
HARLOW Council are installing new ‘Welcome to Harlow’ signs at every entrance point into the town!
Inspired by the elegant design of the Nansledan signs in Cornwall, our new Harlow New Town signs are being installed at the exact boundary point of the Harlow district. This design marries the classic heritage of our original 1947 roots with a striking Art Deco aesthetic.

From the world-renowned sculptures to our unique architectural silhouette, the new signs celebrate Harlow’s status as a “town of opportunity, aspiration, and innovation.”
It’s a modern tribute to our history – welcoming residents and visitors alike with a touch of timeless style.
The NEW TOWN name was outdated after 1972. Why not just HARLOW TOWN.
RJC, because our long neglected town is being restored, regenerated and renewed by Harlow's talented and hard working Conservative council.

This is great news, and I'm so proud that Parndon Mill is featured (which is Harlow's Hub of Creativity). My one pointer to Harlow Council would be that Harlow New Town was designated (25 March 1947) rather than established, hence why we have a designation day. If that feedback could be incorporated I'd be most grateful, it'd also be lovely to see our town's motto "In Common Endeavour" featured too. But this is wonderful news and a sign of things to come. In terms of comments about the New Town label being outdated, I'd just add that this government is rightly building a new generation of new towns (the UK's most successful master planned communities in history), and so I'm proud we're recognising our heritage as a Mk.1 new town, one of a pioneering wave of new communities which changed the course of history. Signs look great, but how long does Harlow New Town last before it becomes Harlow Town.
the council have put the clock tower on the signs how about fixing the clock it hasent workt for 2 months
Always welcome a promotion of Harlow... I do, however, share some views that perhaps its It's time we drop the 'New' from Harlow. 'In Common Endeavour,
Great to see, but the "New Town " status hasn't been applicable for years. Also, hopefully the siting of the signs will be more accurate than the existing jokes.
Such a New Town that Harlow Council are justifiably demolishing some awful 1960s architecture that is no longer fit for purpose. In fact, some much newer like Occasio House. Perhaps, the new signs could read "Not So New New Town" or "Conservative Reconstructed New Town".
As long as it says welcome to Harlow town of the pothole. Great to see the new signs maybe they should fix the roads to spend money more wisely repairing Harlow first.
Should add “you could be here some time due to never ending roadworks”
Welcome to Harlow new town....good luck getting in through all the ridiculous traffic lights.....
