Letter to Editor: Disgust at road closures in Gilston
Your Say / Tue 21st Apr 2026 at 09:07am
Dear Editor,
I write to express my disgust and concern over the planned Eastwick Road C161 closures.

Lack of consultation and communication
Along with other residents we are totally bewildered as to why this information was not shared in a timely manner, and why it was not even up for discussion. Not the consultative approach we were promised as part of on-going consultation processes.
Why?
I understand that this was known at the last workshop/forum yet was not shared.
Why?
What was the outcome of the impact analysis?
What other alternatives were considered?
Do you understand the impact of this on the whole area, not just Gilston, but other villages/towns that will also suffer as a consequence due to heavier traffic conditions in already congested roads?
How will emergency services cope when they are trapped in a traffic jam with no way of getting through?
How will local businesses cope? This will hugely impact their work/deliveries/costs
How do children get to school in time?
How do we get deliveries?
How do commuters get to the station in time?
What plans are being considered to mitigate the above?
Local residents have many suggestions had we been consulted!
There must surely be another plan – not just to re-direct traffic via High Wych
These questions should be answered as I feel that you have just gone for the easiest solution to suit yourselves and budgets. We also need a plan for how similar situations will be better managed over the coming years of on-going disruption.
