KILLINGS involving a knife or sharp instrument fell by 21% last year, according to figures from police forces in England and Wales reports the BBC.
It comes after official data previously showed that homicides had fallen to their lowest level in nearly 50 years.

Crime statistics published on Thursday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed 172 homicides involving a knife or sharp instrument were recorded by police forces in 2025, compared with 217 in 2024.
Last year’s number of knife-related killings is also the lowest since comparable data was first collected in 2010-11.

What, no positive comments anywhere? When using knife crime specifically as a political score by Reform, folk here were all over it. Now we see that it's improved by a 5th, not one single positive comment. Is it because this has happened under Labour?
Me, It was less than two hours since the early morning article posting before your comment. Give people a chance.
It is positive news that the statistics show that Knife crimes is down. I guess it also shows that the local Reform candidates claim that knife crime had increased by 200% was utter rubbish. What a surprise!
Knife crime is a scourge and devastates the lives of not just victims but the communities around them. This is welcome news but we must never be complacent and in certain contexts a public health approach to serious and violent crime is needed. Whereby as well as apprehending assailants, there's a longer term preventative programme starting with education and containing several gateways for all stages of life in which risks of offending are detected earlier and rehabilitation is provided to prevent those at risk from walking a path of crime. I think people are confusing knife related killings with overall knife crime. Knife crime includes non-fatal stabbings, waving one around and also being in possession of a knife. However, the Sumners and Kingsmoor Reform candidate looks a bit of a chump with his his outlandish statement. Anyhow, that's the far-right' tactic of scare mongering requiring a "strong leader" to sort it out. It distracts from the expensive private jets supplied by billionaires to Farage and the millions in donations to Reform from wealthy cryptocurrency bosses. So unlike the other parties who take millions from wealthy hedge fund and private equity firm bosses.
David, just for the record, it says on the news article 'Overall recorded knife-related crime also fell by 10% ". So all good news and complete opposite to what our local reform candidate claimed here on YH.
