Veteran Labour councillor Kay ready to keep fighting
Elections / Tue 28th Apr 2026 at 09:39am
AS we all know, this may be a tough set of local elections for Labour in May.
Bush Fair councillor Kay Morrison isn’t up this year in the district election but she is a county council candidate.

Kay won’t mind us saying but she has seen the good times and the bad times for Labour. She has seen the SDP growth in the early eighties; the dominance of the SNP in Scotland (Kay was a councillor in Fife) and Conservative dominance on a number of occasions.
On Saturday we went down to Bush Fair to talk to Cllr Morrison on the challenges ahead.
Kay makes a good point about the "Born and Bred in Harlow" exclusionary descriptor used by Reform. Those born elsewhere contribute, like my wife Waida who had served the NHS for 35 years. Likewise, I was born and raised in Dagenham but lived in Harlow area for 36 years.
What ever happened to councillors coming round knocking on doors Speaking to tenants about what they can do for us ,and asking what we expect from them . We also used to see them at the wards they were standing on polling day . Now you may get a leaflet though your letterbox . . Come on all parties get out the streets to hear our opinions .
In principle Vincent, I completely agree with you. The trouble with this year is that the District Elections were only confirmed as on in late February reducing the normal campaigning window. Hence I think it driven the campaign to being more leaflets driven than normal. Always happy to talk to you though mate! Your Local Reform Candidate only lives round the corner from you too!
David Forman - we have not used that term even once so I wouldn't get excited by Kay's misleading comment to YH. Longstanding residents are however very important to us, less so the Conservatives who are doing what Conservatives always do, believing the key to economic growth is rapid population growth, something that actually comes at a price.
My own comment on Cllr Morrison's interview is that we have learned nothing from it and so can look forward to more-of-the-same from Labour - and Harlow continues to bear the many scars of their disastrous time in office.
I have emailed a few councillors on various matters in the past and Kay Morrison was the only one who not only responded but also got the problem fixed. Long may she stay in office.
