Athletics: First ever Matching Green 10K a great success

Athletics / Wed 6th May 2026 at 06:56am

OVER 450 runners took part in the first running of the Matching 10K.

Held on the same day as the Matching Festival, the race was started by broadcaster, special constable and wife of Rod Stewart Penny Lancaster.

The race starts on The Green and then wound its way around the country lanes, through Parvilles Farm as well as down and then up Down Hall Road.

It was superbly marshalled and supported.

The race was won by Gary Read in an excellent 34.23.

Two notable performances were by twins George and Alfie Jessey.

The boys are very promising footballers and cricketers. They put in times of 36.32 and 37.52 respectively.

Harlow and the villages MP Chris Vince, fresh from the London Marathon ran an impressive 58.43.

Special mention to wheelchair athlete Ben Parker. How he got up the DownHall Road we will never know!

We do hope that this race becomes a regular fixture in the Essex road running calendar.
