IN LATE July, there is a sold out, all day must event under The Square banner at Latton Park the home of Harlow Rugby Club.
The physical building we know as The Square, went a few years agp. Since then, the “keeper of the spirit” Adam Smith has had a number of nights at places around the town. So, with an all-layer at Latton Park, we went down to Latton Park to speak to Adam and find out what the future holds for The Square.
Finally, what can you expect when you go to the all-dayer. Adam said: “I wanted at least one act who have never had the opportunity to play at The Square due to it’s closure, and therefore don’t have an easy route into playing in Harlow.
I wanted some nostalgia, some acts from the venue’s varied past that people would be familiar with.
I wanted some current, relevant acts. Bands that would be play The Square if it were there, that have built up a following in town, but again have a lack of opportunity to return to play in Harlow.
And the most important rule – no covers bands. They’re still thriving in the town and won’t be any better off for playing at this event.
Example: Headliners – King Prawn.
Anyone who frequented The Square in the late 90s and early 00s must have seen King Prawn at some point. Legends of the UK ska-punk scene, they’ve just this year released an album of brand new material. For this event, they tick all the right boxes, bringing a bit of nostalgia whilst never resting on their laurels.
