Harlow pubs and shops close as hundreds of travellers descend up town for funeral

News / Thu 8th Aug 2019 at 12:16pm

A NUMBER of pubs and shops closed early on Wednesday night due to the presence of a larger traveller funeral in the area.

YH understands that thousands of travellers descended on the area to attend a funeral of a young girl in Hoddesdon.

Hundreds gathered at the Pink Spice restaurant on Commonside Road and spent most of the evening there.

Pubs close by such as the Poplar Kitten, the Phoenix and the Drinker Moth closed their doors.

Local shops such as the Co-Op on Maunds Hatch all closed.

There were no reports of any trouble. The only after-effects was the amount of bottles and litter left in the forecourt of the Pink Spice restaurant.

This also happened last week. What about the lost earnings to these businesses? The inconvenience to law abiding members of the public?

Oh dear the same old perception of travellers'. Who is claiming these people are not law abiding? If you are, what evidence do you have? When did attending a funeral become criminal?
