A really souper night in store to aid Harlow hospital dementia support team
It’s the meal ticket to boost the Singing for memories project
Delicious soup, fresh bread and cake and good company – a sure recipe for a great evening. Add to that that you’ll be supporting one of our nurses in a fundraising bid, and you couldn’t ask for a better way to spend an evening.
At The Princess Alexandra Hospital Trust (PAHT), dedicated dementia clinical nurse specialist, Caroline Ashton Gough, doesn’t stop at looking after the most vulnerable patients in the hospital, she takes her campaign to raise understanding of dementia out into the community too, spreading the word and raising funds.
Next week she will be at the Harlow Soup community event to raise funds for her work at PAHT. During the evening she will present her proposal outlining what she would use the money for. It will be to support the Singing for memories musical therapy for patients, particularly focusing on those with dementia. The diners vote for their favourite project. If Caroline wins, she gets to take away the night’s door takings.
Caroline’s colleagues at the hospital are saying: “Make a night of it at Harlow Soup’s next crowdfunding event on Thursday 29 August for a great evening while boosting the bid to raise money.”
It is estimated that over 850,000 people in the UK currently live with dementia, and this is predicted to rise to over one million by 2025. Music therapy plays a crucial role in the care of many people with dementia, helping minimise apathy, anxiety, restlessness and depression and it can support people at all stages of dementia.
