Tany’s Dell Enhanced Provision compete in the Panathlon at the London Aquatic Centre
ON Thursday 16th January, Tany’s Dell Enhanced Provision for deaf children were invited to compete in the Panathlon. The Panathlon Challenge is a national charity which provides sporting opportunities for over 17,500 young people each year. Four children from Tany’s Dell school competed against other primary schools in the London Aquatic Centre.
The children were so excited to swim in the same venue where the London Olympics were held in 2012.
Miss Reay, Teacher of the Deaf said, ‘We are extremely proud of the children. They all tried their best and they were so pleased they came in 10th place. They couldn’t wait to get back to school to show everyone their medals!’
Tyler, aged 9 said, “When we went there we were so excited. I had to swim 25 metres. It was 100% fun!”
Tany’s Dell Enhanced Provision take part in several deaf events throughout the year. The children really enjoy meeting other children who are deaf or hard of hearing. In addition to the children having fun, it gives them the opportunity to practise their sign language skills and boosts their confidence in the wider community.
