Covid-19: Harlow medical student graduates from Cambridge early so he can work on the front line

Health / Mon 13th Apr 2020 at 11:01am

A HARLOW medical student is set to work on the front line treating those with coronavirus after having his graduation pushed forward.

YH first reported on former Tany’s Dell resident, Jack Bradbury in 2014, when he had just secured a place to study medicine at Cambridge University (see below).

Nearly six years later, Jack has received an e mail telling him he has qualified and is set to start work in West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

There is no celebration or graduation for family to attend.

He has had an email telling him he’s now qualified and he had to register with General Medical Council. He will be working on the front line within weeks.

We would just like to take this opportunity to congratulate Jack on graduating from Cambridge University and going straight onto the front line to help those suffering from Covid-19.

When we interviewed you in 2014, we knew you were made of the right stuff. Good luck young man. Correction, good luck Dr Jack Bradbury MB, BChir (Cantab).

A HARLOW student is heading to Cambridge to study medicine and cites the moment footballer Fabrice Muamba had a heart attack at White Hart Lane as a key spur to his studies.

Jack Bradbury
Jack Bradbury, 18, has gained five A levels in Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Further Maths. He attained an A* in all of the subjects except for Further Maths.

Jack from Tany’s Dell was a student at Leventhorpe school in Sawbridgeworth.

Jack said: “I am very pleased with my results and looking forward to Jesus College, Cambridge in October.

“I have always wanted to study medicine. I undertook work experience at Princess Alexandra hospital as well as the Hamilton Practice in Bush Fair.

“But I was also at the Spurs v Bolton game in March 2012 when Bolton midfielder, Fabrice Muamba collapsed on the pitch with a heart attack.

“I saw the cardiologist, Dr Andrew Deaner come onto the pitch from the stands. I saw the work the whole team undertook and I thought of all the areas of medicine, it is cardiology that I want to specialise in.”

Jack’s mother, Katy is clearly very proud of Jack’s achievements.

Katy said: “He has worked so hard for this and deserves all the credit. Sometimes we have had to persuade him to stop revising.

“We are all very proud of him.”
