Next online Harlow SOUP coming soon

THE next online Harlow SOUP will be held on Thursday 28th May 6.30pm on Facebook Live via the page www.facebook.com/HarlowSoup/Live. This follows a successful event held at the start of the lockdown on April 2nd which raised over £1500 via Go Fund Me for the Covid-19 relief effort in Harlow. The money was allocated to Community Embrace, Harlow College and Harlow Foodbank.

The next event will be a little different and closer to the format of the in-person Harlow SOUP events which are usually held at Pemberley Academy. This time, viewers will get the opportunity to vote in an online poll after listening to four different community projects speak live and answer questions from the host. All money raised will be distributed to all four projects in accordance with their share of the vote.

The four organisations pitching are:

Harlow Citizens Advice Bureau; seeking funding for I.T. equipment for their volunteers to continue offering support during this period of increased demand, whilst keeping themselves safe by working remotely

Butterfly Effect Wellbeing; new project seeking funding for a mental health drop-in social and support group to be held at Potter Street Church

The Square – Harlow; the organisers behind the former much-loved Harlow music venue are seeking funding to put on a free community concert in Harlow Town Park once the Covid-19 restrictions have been fully lifted

Princess Alexandra Hospital; funding to provide end-of-life kits for patients who wish to, or have no other option than to, die comfortably in their own homes

The event will also feature performances by talented local musicians and will finish to coincide with the weekly clap for our carers at 8pm. The event will be broadcast live and recorded so it can be viewed retrospectively.
