What can we do to make Harlow women feel safer?

THE question was posed by Labour councillor, Stefan Mullard on Tuesday night at a Harlow Council Scrutiny Committee.
It came on the back of a number of events, including the murder of Sarah Everard.
The subject came up as a further debate after the last committee meeting, where, two senior Essex Police officers, made a presentation to the cross-party committee.
Chair of the committee, cllr Tony Edwards expressed his frustration that they had not had the chance to analyse the figures before the meeting.
Cllr Edwards, then made reference to a series of statistics referring to the high number of unsolved rapes and harassment cases in Harlow.
This was followed by an incredibly moving and harrowing testimony from Harlow councillor, Emma Toal where she detailed her experience of sexual assaults and harassments.
Councillor Edwards recommended that they form a working group that would in some way go to answer Cllr Mullard’s question.
