Pollution fears and investigation underway as stream near Fold Croft turns blue
Health / Sun 15th Aug 2021 at 12:20pm

AN INVESTIGATION is underway as a large part of a stream between a Harlow housing estate and a golf course has turned blue.
The stream/brook runs at the back of Fold Croft and through the Canons Brook Golf course.
YH was alerted to the problem by staff at the Herts and Essex Community Farm, which is situated nearby.
Little Parndon councillor Chris Vince has obtained a sample of the blue water from them and will take further action.

Harlow Council leader, cllr Andrew Johnson went down to the scene. He told YH that Harlow Council and Essex Police have formally informed Environment Agency (EA).
Cllr Johnson stated on Twitter: “Whoever has caused this in Canons Brook, you should hang your heads in shame and I hope you have to pay a considerable amount for this environmental damage!”
YH has also approached the EA for a statement.
Update: 1600 hrs
Harlow MP Robert Halfon has spoken to Minister for the Environment, Rebecca Pow with the aim of speaking to the relevant senior EA officer.
So...what is it, and who caused it? Well that was a wasted question.
This used to happen all the time from that outlet. Have seen many different colours over the years.
Must be a photo opportunity otherwise you wouldn’t get the invisible Leader of the Council and leader of the Labour opposition running around collecting samples. If this has been going on for some time, must be a photo opp for them to pretend to show they are actually doing something.
Interesting that Brian H says the colours have changed over the years - this should help with any 'detective' investigation by Councillors! Surely this is a good clue to work on!
This pollution you can see, check out the pharmaceutical products pollution in river and drinking water you can't see and research at Brunel University 2012 found that's caused male fish to turn into female, affected heart function and was responsible for halving human fertility. The industry still hasn't acted so it isn't removed because the of the cost to their profit margins, the price being paid by the public. It's a major issue in many countries but unchecked even in those who have taken the trouble to check out their rivers and acquifers. Is that not Conservative blue? Maybe Labour should retaliate and turn the Stort red.
Papa smurfs at it again
Church End pond used to turn that colour on a regular basis. I was always told it was coolant for use in air conditioning units somewhere in the pinnacles
