Update: Statement from Essex Police

A man has been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and theft in Purford Green, in Harlow.

The theft relates to a shoplifting report at the Co-op, in Manor Hatch, which took place at about 9.30am this morning, Wednesday 1 September.

The arrest was made at 9.45am.

The man remains in custody for questioning.

A LARGE number of police officers swooped to detain a man in the Purford Green area of Harlow.

The incident happened at just after 9.30am in a cul-de-sac just off Tumbler Road.

A number of officers restrained the man until a police van attended and took the male away.
