Ward by Ward: Toddbrook: Labour hope to do the double (or will Green Julie spring a surprise?)

Elections / Tue 3rd May 2022 at 06:08pm

LABOUR were particularly disappointed to lose two seats in Toddbrook last May.

It really is one of their heartlands and you know it is the type of area in which they had done a lot of work.

There are two seats up again, due to the departure of Conservative councillor, Gareth Williams.

Back in 2019, the late Frances Mason took it by 350 votes. Back in 2015, Karen Clempner won by 450 votes.

With the Tories expecting a tough night, Labour could well hold one and gain one here.

We interviewed Tony Edwards last week. The other candidate is Daniella Pritchard. We haven’t seen Ms Pritchard out campaigning. She didn’t set the world on fire when she was a Bush Fair councillor but we understand this was an all-women’s shortlist and there wasn’t a long list of volunteers.

We also haven’t heard from both Conservative councillors either.

However, we have heard from Green Party candidate Julie Taylor who was a key part fo the Save The Stort campaign and has been a very active part of the Green machine.

YH Prediction: Labour Hold and Labour Gain

Toddbrook

Tony Edwards (Labour)

Emma Ghaffari (Conservative)

Emma Hellett (Conservative)

Daniella Pritchard (Labour)

Julie Taylor (Green)

Julie Taylor of the Green Party really is a person of spirit and integrity. She is passionate about defending all that good in Harlow. I'm proud that she is standing and am sure she will make a damn good Councillor and be a credit to our town.

People need to remember that it will be business innovation that will undoubtedly offer up solutions to save the planet - rather than glueing yourself to the road!

Luckily Julie is a business woman and Publisher. She also fought off life threatening cancer and helped raise Tens of thousands of pounds for cancer care in the process during her chemo.. Quite an amazing woman.

Great I will look forward to the Green party's ideas and business proposals going toward! Cancer is a very aggressive disease and debilitating disease - I do hope we find the solution in the not too distant future.

Julie, When did you last walk around the ward? I ask as it is getting worse by the week with rubbish strewn about, Pavements blocked by selfish motorists, Cycle tracks falling apart, Hedges uncut and all the same complaints that arise from most areas of the town, As for Barn Mead residents wanting speed ramps well good luck with that as one on Penlow Rd was reported as falling apart 2 1/2 years ago and has only been marked for repair recently, I think the tally is one broken suspension wishbone so far.

@ Michelle/Danielle I think you are confusing The Green Party with Insulate Britain. No one is glueing themselves to anything. I know you are a business woman and I am also very interested to see your proposals too. Just want to add here that I saw the comments on Twitter and thought they were atrocious. @jarrett I have looked around the ward. It certainly is clear that neglect has occurred. Something that I like to do is survey each part, make notes, take photographic evidence/location and then report and log and monitor progress. I am not your councillor yet but if I do become your councillor then I would be very happy to chat with you. The issues you raise are all things that I would like to see improved. Best wishes

Hi Julie, Agreed. It's nice to have a respectful debate. The levels some have gone to is a reflection of their own character. I would never personally attack anybody it shows deep-rooted weakness and insecurity. I wish you all the best for tomorrow. Your Harlow has apologised for leaving out Danielle's plans for the community out of her post/interview -Your Harlow has said they will update shortly.
