TANY’S Dell primary school year 3 pupils stepped thousands of years into the past las they participated in a Stone Age survival night at school, marking the end of their six-week Stone Age topic.

The children of Emerald and Jade classes have been learning about the Stone Age and combining it with survival skills.

The school was able to call upon the wisdom and skills of local survival expert and hero ‘Dangerous Bryan’ who helped bring his expertise and a real sense of excitement to the children throughout the topic, setting challenges for every lesson for the children to complete.

The project aimed to bring the Stone Age to life while teaching crucial lessons about teamwork and problem-solving that remain relevant in today’s world.

“We wanted to create something truly memorable for the children,” says Mr Tew, Year 3 teacher. “By combining hands-on survival skills with historical learning, we’ve seen the children develop not just knowledge, but confidence, team work and resilience too.”

The grand finale began with a Stone Age themed day where pupils participated in prehistoric-themed challenges, earning resources for their evening camp. The excitement peaked that evening when, during a special night time Stone Age survival event , through the dark Dangerous Bryan made a spectacular entrance, arriving in his army Land Rover to light the camp’s ceremonial fire to cheers and excitement from the children .

During the evening event, lit only by the lights of the school building the pupils worked in teams to complete challenges, earning food and water for a Stone Age feast at the end of the night. The evening culminated with pupils gathering around the fire in the shelters they had built themselves and enjoying a feast of all the things they had earned.

“Seeing the children work together, solve problems, and truly engage with history has been incredible,” adds Mr Tew. “They’ve learned that the lessons of the Stone Age – resourcefulness, cooperation, and resilience – are just as valuable today as they were thousands of years ago.”

Please don’t forget to mention the amazing support staff that worked so hard for weeks to make this happen for the children. The invisible heroes that never get mentioned or paid for the extra hours they work is terrible and you should be ashamed.

I don’t believe the above comment has been written by a ‘Parent Trustee‘ , It sounds very much like an individual who potentially has had involvement but simply hasn’t received public credit they wish.
