AT last night’s Annual Council meeting, Cllr Dan Swords was re-elected as the Leader of Harlow Council for the year ahead. He also set out his plan for the year ahead and announced his Cabinet which he said was ‘vital to delivering our six missions’.

Setting out his plan, Cllr Dan Swords said:
“I want Harlow to be the most transformative and impactful local authority in the country. One that truly changes lives – boldly, unapologetically, and with purpose. We are not here to manage decline with a shrug and a spreadsheet – we are here to lead the glorious rebirth of one of Britain’s most iconic New Towns.”
The plan details the council’s six missions to ‘build Harlow’s future’ which are:
The Leader made the following appointments to the Cabinet:
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Housing – Cllr David Carter
Cabinet Member for Environment – Cllr Nicky Purse
Cabinet Member for Finance – Cllr James Leppard
Cabinet Member for Corporate Services and Transformation – Cllr Hannah Ellis
Cabinet Member for Planning and Garden Town – Cllr Alastair Gunn
Cabinet Member for Public Protection – Cllr Joel Charles
Cabinet Member for Local Government Reorganisation and Devolution – Cllr Michael Hardware
Cabinet Member for Culture and Community – Cllr Danielle Brown
Commenting on his re-election and Cabinet appointments, Cllr Dan Swords said:
“It is the honour of my life to be the Leader of Harlow Council, and we are working around the clock to deliver for Harlow. For too long our town was let down by poor leadership, we’re putting that right with our plan to build Harlow’s future and six missions to deliver on our promises.
“I have appointed an excellent Cabinet who will be resolutely focussed on transforming our council, rebuilding our town, investing in our housing, renewing our neighbourhoods, securing our future and protecting our communities. Now, it’s back to work.”

Genuinely wish you the best. Harlow deserves infinitely better than it has received from all parties in the recent past. There is hope… but we will be watching..
If they can’t even sort out the River Way junction with the A1184 they have no chance.
Well our kids are pretty much stuffed now, my son is 4th generation Harlow and thanks to wonderful Harlow council housing an influx of Londoners he can't get a job and he can't get a home. We are majorly overcrowded and the town centre looks as if an apocalypse has taken place, all those empty shops equals even less jobs. Cheers Harlow council and thank you so much British government 👍🏻.
So be it, if must be for now. But what is Cllr James Leppard still doing on here!!!??? He has never hidden the fact that he is racist through and through. A tommy robinson supporter drapped in a TORY cloak. When will the tory party finally deal with this?
Another whole year of empty words. Another year of the town looking like it's been demolished Another year of crime with the influx of London overflow I really cant understand why Dan Swords is leader & all these adults around him not doing very much at all. Is it that nobody else what's the position leader of Harlow council because it's in such a mess Oh Well Dan you have another year on your platform to get your mugshot in your hard hat of all your demolitions!!!
I wonder if the paving in the Town Centre will have been completed by the time he is next up for election? And what of the former Occasio House site, demolished over a year ago and still no sign of any work starting. Same goes for the new bus station (sorry, Terminus). Four years the Conservatives have now been in power, it is clear they are no better than Labour when it comes to looking after residents and the town itself.
I'm a second generation Harlow resident, with two young persons starting out on their adult lives, both proud to be 3rd generation Harlow residents albeit struggling for work & housing as others are. My parents being 1st generation Harlow residents were part of the original London influx. How quickly we seem to forget our history/roots when we complain about Londoners arriving in the town. I wonder whether all the people carping-on from the sidelines actually ever do anything positive to make our Town better than it is now. I don't agree in the main with most of what our Local and National politicians stand for or do but at least they are trying.
Well at least someone in Essex was allowed a vote on something.
Well done and best of luck Dan!
Well, good luck. Not seen anything noteworthy yet from Dan, despite all the promises last local elections, but I do hope someone does something soon.
Looking at the turnout of local elections that are sub 30% if you can't be bothered to vote then tough you deserve what you get
