HARLOW Town Pirates Walking Football teams played their second round of Essex Walking Football League fixtures in May and early June.
As in the previous rounds, the best performances were recorded by the two Women’s teams.

In the Women’s Premiership, Harlow extended their lead at the top of the table to 10 points and remain undefeated, winning all five of their fixtures. They started with a 3-0 win over Leyton Orient 2-1, followed by 1-0 victories over Valley Green Rovers Diamonds, Billericay Town Blue and Beacon Hill Rovers and rounded off the day defeating Romford Randoms Blue 3-0.
In the Championship, Pirates took a while to find their best form, drawing 0-0 with Beacon Hill Rovers White, Hawkwell Athletic and Billericay Town White before finishing with a 3-2 win over Romford Randoms Yellow and defeating Valley Green Rovers Emerald 1-0. Results on the day meant that they retain their second place in the League, but Hawkwell stretched their lead to 8 points.
The Men’s Over 60s, playing in Division 1 endured a poor day in mid-May. They started with a repeat of a 1-1 draw with Chelmsford City Clarets as they had a month earlier, but thereafter the day went downhill with a 0-3 defeat by Cheshunt, followed by a 0-4 loss to Romford, before a slight recovery, but still a defeat 0-1 to Southend. This all means that mean that Pirates lost another place in the league and sit 9th of 10 teams.
The Men’s Over 65s in Division 2 had a mixed day and in the process were soaked in the rain. They started with a 1-2 defeat to Billericay Town White, but came back to win their only other match 1-0 against Romford. Their scheduled match against Billericay Town Red was called off prior to the start due to an illness in the Billericay team, so the match will be played at a later date. At the end of the day, Pirates slipped to 6th of 8 teams, however, they do have a game in hand on most of the other teams.
The Men’s Over 70s team playing in Division 1 improved somewhat on their performances last month, but still failed to win or even score. The first match against Romford finished 0-0, as did the second match against a much stronger team, Little Oakley. Their final match was decided by a twice taken penalty, with Chelmsford City scoring the only goal in a 0-1 defeat for Pirates.
Despite the disappointing performances, Pirates gained one place in the table to 6th of 10 teams.
