Chris Vince MP requests urgent meeting with health bosses as still no decision on UKHSA move to Harlow

News / Wed 11th Jun 2025 at 01:58pm

THERE is still no decision on whether the UK Health Service Agency (UKHSA) is moving from Wiltshire to Harlow.

Many were hoping for a decision today as part of the chancellor of the exchequer, Rachel Reeves’ spending review.

In a letter she sent to Harlow MP Chris Vince, she pledged that a decision would be made as part of the “spending review process”.

However, there was no mention of it in her hour long speech.

This was clearly very frustrating for Salisbury MP, John Glen, who has campaigned to keep the UKHSA in Porton Down, Wiltshire.

He asked a question of the chancellor in the House of Commons, following the chancellor’s statement.

After the statement, Harlow MP Chris Vince said:

“We still await information about the future of the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and its proposed move to Harlow.”

“This project would ensure the long-term prosperity of our town.

The delays and uncertainty caused by the previous government have gone on too long which is why I’ve requested an urgent meeting with the Secretary of State to urge for clarity and commitment.

Harlow needs certainty and I will continue to push the government for as much investment in our community as possible.”

Reeves avoidance simply confirms nothing will move to Harlow and Porton Down might get a little bit of glitter as an upgrade but nothing more.

As the Conservative Government failed to buy the land for the new Hospital, and they were also incompetent enough not to buy the land for 2,500 council houses to the East of Harlow, which is part of the Gilston and Harlow project. Why doesn't the new Harlow hospital take over the site? The government already owns it, the taxpayers have already forked out hundreds of millions of pounds demolishing most of the site, and maintaining what was left.

I have scooted around the building twice now it's a dead duck. But there is enough land to offer to British businesses. We could also offer up the GM food site to supplement Harlow's food .We need to start thinking about self sufficiency. It's a dangerous world today.Have a think about it. I have already given many suggestions. I will remind you Tony. 1-Rebuild Pah1 on top of safely built 2 level underground carpark. Or even build a multi storey carpark on pah 1 own carpark. I think my original idea is better. ,2- use PHE building as a Hospital.it should be ok either as a temporary change.Or a permanent one. 3-Gift Harlow with the building we put over 300 millon of the tax payers money into it. I have plenty more suggestions. You know I am not getting paid for this.I just want my town to be well kitted out. Is there anyone else who agrees . I know the regulars to this paper have tried beyond their call of duty to contribute. We don't have the time foreplay. Harlow needs her hospital and infrastructure. You owe me.

Vince says he will push the government. However, compare Vince's performance with Salisbury MP John Glen. Glen was first elected to parliament on 6 May 2010. On 22 June 2010 Glen secured an Adjournment debate on the future of Porton Down (HPA) in parliament. In the 11 months of being the honourable member for Harlow Vince has not managed to secure one debate over UKHSA. John Glen has proved beyond measure what fighting for your constituents looks like. Here is the evidence for the 2010 debate: https://hansard.parliament.uk/commons/2010-06-22/debates/10062258000002/HealthProtectionAgency(Porton)

Chris Vince couldn't arrange a debate with himself. Mind you if he did , he would tell himself he used to be a teacher , and he would back everything , and UTURN if necessary.
