Outrage and anger as Redstone House apartments in Harlow town centre advertised for rent

News / Wed 18th Jun 2025 at 06:21am

THERE has been outrage and anger following the news that apartments in Redstone House in Harlow Town Centre have been re-advertised as available for rent.

Photo: Redstone House on Tuesday morning

Six weeks ago, YH reported that residents were told they had to move out of their town centre homes after a prohibition notice was served by Essex Fire Service on the apartments.

Over a hundred residents, many who had lived and worked in the town for a number of years, had to find alternative accommodation.

This has caused huge upset to their lives.

But now, adverts have appeared on the internet advertising apartments.

It appeared that the price had gone up. Two bedroomed apartments were being advertised for £1800 plus. We understand the same apartments were in the region of £900 to £1000 pcm just a few months ago.

It also appeared that Redstone House has had its name changed to Endeavour House.

But by late Tuesday evening, all the adverts on a number of letting sites had been removed.

On Monday, we had contacted Criterion Hospitality, whom, according to the adverts,, were the company overseeing the rental

We sent the Group Head of Communications and Engagement for Criterion Capital, a number of questions.

Including:

Where do you believe you stand in relation to the prohibition notice served in relation to the property?

Would it be accurate to say that the properties you are advertising are still subject to a prohibition notice?

Are you actively engaging with relevant authorities to ensure the properties are safe?

They have yet to reply.

YH went up to the town on Tuesday morning and (as you may see from photo) all the windows were open and it looked like a lot of work was being undertaken.

On Monday afternoon, we contacted Essex County Fire and Rescue Service (ECFRS). We asked them if the prohibition notice was still live.

A ECFRS spokesperson said: ‘The Prohibition Notice is still live and we have not received any information about re-occupying the building.

The news has not gone down well with the leader of Harlow Labour, cllr James Griggs, who (with his team) did the utmost to help beleaguered residents, before, during and after residents were required to leave.

Cllr Griggs said: “So Redstone House is now Endeavour House?

“What a cruelly ironic name change given that the landlords made no endeavour whatsoever to maintain the building and provide decent accommodation for the previous residents.

“The landlords allowed the building to deteriorate in such an appalling way that it became uninhabitable.

They have now evicted those residents and are busily making the building habitable in order to charge inflated rents. Greed of the most disgraceful kind.

“Any potential tenant would do well to check out the way these landlords treated their previous tenants before they sign anything.

“The sooner the Renters Rights Bill makes it way through parliament the better, enforcing improved standards and rights for tenants, holding landlords to account and abolishing no fault evictions”.

We have also contacted Harlow Council and are awaiting a reply.

Could this be the same greed that occurred with Rank House?

Outrage and Anger indeed! People in the Private Rented Sector are increasingly becoming pawns in a grubby little game run by greed bar-stewards! That's one of the many reason that the words "social housing" and "affordable housing" are are so meaningless. What we need is a proper plan to deliver Council Housing with fair rents and secure tenancies. 1) There should be a full enquiry into this matter - thank you Your Harlow for leading the way 2) I hope Chris Vince MP will raise this matter in the Commons if he get's chance.

Did they really think by changing the name to Endeavour house that no one would notice?

Mr Grumpy, do you know who the Landlord is? If not, google Criterion Capital and see who the founder and CEO is and his history makes interesting reading. And the chances of him being arrested as you have suggested is less than zero!

Affordable housing should be no more than 10% above local council prices and same for all associated running costs

@sStuart J, just checked his history, jees that man is lacking morality and care for other humans. No point in even making threats to him, he seems to have good protection, if not he will simply buy his way out.

Well said, cllr Griggs. These greedy, shameless people need to be named and exposed for what they are: utterly careless about people 's security and well being.

Who controls the housing in Harlow? It is an absolute shambles with private rents unaffordable and no council housing available. If you have any savings the council won't help even if someone is very unwell! Housing in the town is now a joke but it isn't in the slightest bit amusing!

If I were in the council I would like to see the ex residents of Redstone house fully compensated for the rehoming, upheaval, and trauma caused to them by the disgraceful way that they were treated.Further more this is already happening again.Lets stop those people who are responsible for this outrageous behaviour.

Quite ironic that the launch of the new neighbourhood policing teams' photograph was taken outside this building: https://www.yourharlow.com/2025/06/04/chief-constable-of-essex-visits-harlow-to-launch-new-neighbourhood-policing-teams/

Lots of people + not a lot of land= housing issues as this keeps prices high. Look at the USA you can get a very large house there for the price of a terraced house here and the wages are double. I think they refer to it as the land of opertunity which this country is not

I lived in Redstone House with my daughter, the agency was very difficult and worst company to deal with. I would like to share my experience in the Redstone House flat , very frustrating and conflicting information, Criterion Hospitality, [email protected] are liaise and thefts, they stole most of my belongings from my flat, which I never had the time to get my personal documents and furniture out because I was away. Because my family member had a big stroke which she needed my assisted. We returned back with no access to my flat, looking at my daughter with so much distressed. As a single woman I feel violated to know men went through my personal belongings. Please do not rent from those people very bad and wicked people.
