Police target speeding motorists across Harlow

SPEED continues to contribute to anti-social behaviour, that’s why Essex Police are continuing their #NeighbourhoodPolicing patrols and enforcement to keep you safe.
A spokesperson said: “Speeding on #Essex roads is wrong for several important reasons, especially safety and the negative impact it has on others, and stress on the roads.

It can lead to:
• Reduced Reaction Time: The faster a vehicle travels, the less time a driver has to react to unexpected events like pedestrians crossing or sudden stops.
• Increased Severity of Collisions: Higher speeds lead to more forceful impacts, which significantly raise the risk of serious injury or death.
• Less Control: Vehicles become harder to control at high speeds, especially around curves or in poor weather conditions.
Yet last week, our enforcement team, who worked alongside the Local Policing Team, captured speeding drivers in #Harlow.
In London Road, they reported 119 offences in just 30 minutes, which equates to 4 offences per minute. The top speed in a 40 limit was 71mph.
In Rye Hill Road – 21 offences were reported with a top speed of 52mph in a 30 limit.
In Commonside Road – a very residential street – a driver was recorded driving at 54mph in a 30 limit.
In Station Road, Old Harlow, a further 13 offences were detected – including a top speed of 38mph in a 30 limit.
Thankfully, we found lots of responsible drivers because we didn’t record a single speeding driver in Howard Way.
“Keep to the speed limit, it’s there for a reason”.
Would be nice if they targeted all crimes with the same passion
We live in a very impatient world, where saving a few seconds is paramount in some people's eyes. I regularly use the stow traffic light crossing, probably 80% of the time a driver jumps the lights. Round the corner the other day a guy was reported as being knocked off his bike on the crossing and the driver not stopping. I am all for speed cameras, preferably hidden, use the fines to finance our services. Have I deliberately gone over the limit, in my younger days yes but on motorways and out of town roads, no matter what the rush I have adhered to limits in towns.
Great that they are addressing the speeding issues but what measures are going to be put in place to prevent the potential accidents. I have been asking for 3 years to have this looked at in Old Harlow as drivers have been recorded doing up to 50 mph, using it as a shortcut through especially now the new junction has been opened. Does someone have to be seriously hurt or potential worse before this is taken seriously. Saying that we have had serious collisions but that still hasn't made a difference. All I have asked for is another chicane.
Well done guys speeding kills if you know someone that has been killed by a speeding motorist you would be pleased the police are doing this
Should target Potter street 20mph cars vans lorry's ect doing more like 40 mph or more Day and night they use it as a short cut a joke
