Reform UK is pledging mass deportations of asylum seekers who arrive in the UK in small boats.

News / Sat 23rd Aug 2025 at 09:44am

THE party’s leader – Nigel Farage – has told The Times that there is a “massive crisis” in the UK, which threatens national security and could lead to public disorder.

Under the plans, people could be arrested on arrival, detained on disused RAF bases and, if agreements were reached, returned to Afghanistan, Eritrea and other countries that are significant sources of arrivals.

Many of these measures could face legal challenges and political opposition. Labour has branded them “pie in the sky”, while the Conservatives said Reform were recycling their ideas.

Mr Farage does like dealing in fiction hoping it could turn to fact if his media following puts it on their front page. Sadly many will believe the BS suggesting that the country is being overwhelmed by migrant' and thereby taking their sons and daughters chances of a home based on antecedent stories that Mrs Jones told the milkman. If this town and this country vote for this nonsense then forget about the current Tory-lite rubbish we have and multiply it ten fold. Has anyone got a spare ticket to Vancouver this October?

Asylum is a right for anyone fleeing persecution under Article 14 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights agreed in 1948. It gives all of us rights such as the right to an education, the right to a fair trial and the right not to be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile. Many of these rights were then carried over into the European Convention of Human Rights in 1950 which our government of the time ratified as a binding obligation. Once we start a process of pick and mix rights for different people then the whole system unravels and the politicians can ride rough shod over all of us. I would hope most people would agree with Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood."

Although some may think 1950 is a long time ago, our last Tory government reaffirmed its commitment to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in July 2023. The minister responsible Lord Ahmed said in his annual report: "The UK government holds an unwavering conviction that the human rights of every person still matters." In explaining why this is the case Lord Ahmed said: "In the aftermath of the second world war, countries came together vowing that such atrocities should never happen again. From that global exercise, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was born." I don't believe what any of the parties spout out. They all lie just to get our votes. There is no such thing as an honest politician. To break down the word politics: poli as in many, tics as in blood sucking parasites.

For those who talk about asylum for those fleeing war and persecution, need I draw the back to the fact that we are most likely the fourth or fifth 'safe country' they have travelled through? The UK has long been a safe haven for those with legitimate cause to flee their home countries. This is different, a wholesale migration, 1,000 by boat just this last weekend. Let's not kid ourselves many aren't breaking into the UK for economic reasons and, as a sovereign state, we have the right to decide who we protect and who doesn't need protection at all.
