PURFORD Green Primary School and Nursery, part of the PCLC Trust, has been working during the summer on the expansion of its childcare offer for local families.
Two years ago, the school opened its nursery provision for 3 and 4 year-olds, led by the Trust’s Early Years Lead, Miss Rhonda Smith. Together with her dedicated nursery team, she has built a nurturing environment where the youngest children can thrive.

This commitment was recognised by OFSTED, with inspectors noting that “children benefit from a strong start in the nursery with clear routines that help them settle quickly and calmly, beginning the day with songs, sounds, and other interesting learning.” The report also praised the bespoke curriculum, designed to help children progress confidently from Nursery to Reception, ensuring they are well-prepared for Year 1.
Building on this success, Purford Green is now extending its wraparound childcare to include nursery-aged children. The school already offers a popular breakfast club from 7.45am and after-school care until 5.30pm, and will be looking to extend this to include all children.
The school’s partnership with the Hangout Club has developed its on site holiday provision. From later this year, this partnership will expand to provide holiday childcare for 3- and 4-year-olds, ensuring families have access to affordable care throughout the year.
Miss Rhonda Smith said:
“Schools are at the heart of their communities, so we are delighted to extend our offer to nursery aged children and ensure that our families have access to childcare for nearly every week of the year. By supporting working parents with flexible, high-quality provision, we’re helping our children to thrive both in and out of the classroom.”
In addition, the PCLC Trust has ensured that parents can use the government’s funded childcare voucher scheme to pay for breakfast club, after-school care, and holiday childcare—further supporting families with the cost of childcare.
Vic Goddard, CEO added:
We are proud to serve our communities and develop ways to increase the support we offer. Purford Green continues to place its children and families at the centre of everything it does, providing education and care that meets the needs of its community.
