AUDIENCE members were treated to an unforgettable evening of eerie elegance and musical talent on Sunday night as Plant Pots and Wellies staged a gothic musical ‘Strings of the Night’
The production followed a dark storyline, led by a mysterious puppeteer (played by Ben Molloy) who appeared to control the characters with unseen strings, creating an unsettling sense of fate and manipulation throughout. The narrative was guided by a flamboyant circus ringmaster (Jake Kemble) who delivered dramatic narration and tied the scenes together with theatrical flair.

A cast of striking characters stepped from the shadows as the story unfolded: an innocent girl (performed by Emma Kent) being manipulated by different forms of love, a sorrowful phantom (played by Mike Doe) fixated on her, a brooding priest (Mike Smith) in conflict with faith and fear, a devoted but controlling mother (Vanessa Smith), a valiant hero battling forces beyond his control (Oak Saunders) a broken doll (other cast member) and a tragic clown (Owen Sharpe)
What stood out most to the audience were the exceptional vocal performances. The hall rang with powerful harmonies, delicate solos and duets and emotional musical moments that brought goosebumps and at times emotional tears. The voices, matched with atmospheric staging and subtle dramatic lighting, created a deeply immersive experience that drew the audience into the performers’ dream-like narrative world.
The production received enthusiastic applause, with audience members praising the creativity, ambition and talent on display. Plant Pots and Wellies once again proved that imaginative theatre thrives on community stages and that a talented group with vision can transform even the simplest venue into a doorway to another world.
For those who attended, it was an evening of captivating storytelling, memorable voices and gothic atmosphere that will be talked about long after the lights faded.
Director and writer Rowen Saunders said “We have the most talented group of actors and I am so proud of them all. West End, here we come!”
Plant Pots & Wellies is a community project that provides activities for both children and adults with additional needs.
