DO you like history? Do you like football? Better still do you like football history? If so, you should take a look at the new exhibition at Harlow Museum.

Did you know that the club was founded way back in 1879 and that there are only four clubs in Essex that were formed before Harlow and that are still playing today, making the club one of the oldest in the county. The club is older than Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham Utd!
The age of the club means that it has a lot of history. The new display at the museum tells the story of the early years of the club and how it developed into one of the best junior clubs in Essex before becoming a senior club in the 1930s. During WW2 the club played its part in the defence of the country by handing its old ground in Mulberry Green over to the army, and many of its players served in the armed forces. After 1945 and with the coming of the New Town and an influx of experienced players that moved to the town, the club moved up to play in some of the best amateur leagues in the south of England.
Visitors to the exhibition can explore a fascinating collection of memorabilia, including TV footage from the club’s famous 1979 FA Cup run, when the club reached the 4th round before a narrow defeat at 2nd Division Watford. That match drew Watford’s record attendance and was featured on Match of the Day.
The Harlow Town FC exhibition is a must-see for football fans, history enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the unique story of one of Essex’s sporting institutions.
The exhibition is on display until Saturday 7 February 2026 at Harlow Museum.
