Cross Car Racing

The champion receives a test day at a Rallycross venue plus race entry into the Motorsport UK Cross Car Championship (March through November). LifeLive supplies the FIA Cross Car, Waltham Services Group provides tyres.

Who Can Enter

Motorsport UK built this for newcomers with no off-road racing background:

• 16 years or older
• Valid passport
• Zero previous Cross Car, Rallycross, or Autocross entries

Pre-qualifier costs nothing. Top 27 drivers need a Motorsport UK Esports Membership (£27.99/year), which includes 12 months of iRacing subscription for new members. Real off-road racing costs serious money for equipment and transport—this sidesteps all of that.

Driving the FIA Cross Car Fast

Rear-wheel-drive, almost no weight. Hammer the gas on loose dirt and the back steps out immediately. Brake deeper than you think, stay on the pedal a bit as you turn in, and wait—the rear will come around on its own. Most drivers yank the wheel too hard trying to catch it. Bad idea.

Go slow at first. Figure out where the grip disappears, memorize your braking points, then add speed bit by bit. Getting out of corners clean matters way more than diving in fast — the Cross Car has good acceleration, but if you mess up mid-corner you’ve lost all that momentum.

Split practice across the 48-hour window. Shorter sessions, different times of day. Tired drivers make sloppy mistakes, and one bad lap can drop you out of the top 27 entirely.
