Letter to Editor: Your chance to speak up for safer streets in Harlow

Dear Editor
ESSEX residents have a chance to speak up for safer streets by completing the survey on the draft Essex Safer Speeds Strategy
On Tuesday 24 March from 10.00am – 2.00pm, there is a drop in at Harlow Library organised by Safer Essex Partnerships where you can obtain more information.

As Cycle UK’s representative for Harlow Cycling Advocacy Network, I know how much speed affects whether people feel safe enough to walk, wheel or cycle. Safer speeds mean safer school journeys, safer neighbourhoods and streets that work better for everyone.
Will Bramhill of Colchester Cycling Campaign has long argued for area-wide 20mph limits rather than isolated zones. Wales has already shown that lower speed limits can reduce casualties. Essex now has the chance to follow that lead.
Please don’t leave this consultation to the loudest opponents. If you want calmer, safer and more people-friendly streets, take a few minutes to fill in the survey.
Yours sincerely
Yasmin van der Poel
Cycle UK representative, Harlow Cycling Advocacy Network
