PASSMORES councillor Jake Shepherd expressed his concerns at the state of multi-use games area in his ward.
He asked a number of questions at last week’s council meeting.
Councillor Jake Shepherd to Councillor Danielle Brown (Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community):
There are 6 multiuse games areas in Harlow, but I am particularly concerned about the state of disrepair of the games area in Northbrooks Park.

I know through conversations with the Portfolio Holder and Officers that there are ambitions to upgrade facilities across the town, but can this administration provide an update on the future of Northbrooks’ games area?
Reply from Councillor Danielle Brown (Portfolio Holder for Culture and Community):
I’m pleased to say that Northbooks is part of a townwide project to upgrade sport facilities. We will be upgrading the site as part of the 2026/27 capital programme and are working with Sport England to see if they can provide additional funding to further enhance the site.
We have submitted a successful expression of interest to Sport England for Northbrooks and other site townwide and Northbrooks will be prioritised for submission of a full grant application.
If the grant application is successful, this will fund floodlighting and CCTV at the site to further enhance the use beyond the plans that have already been shared with Ward councillors.
Yes, councillor Jake Shepherd is very busy at the moment as he is up for re-election in May. I have to say the other Labour candidates standing in May have been rather quiet. However, Jake points out an issue that is more widespread than just Northbrooks. Perhaps, the joy of play for working class kids is not high on the agenda for Tory-run Harlow Council?
If you think that is bad take a look at Fold Croft`s basket ball court and mini football area.
