Harlow Labour begin election campaign with team of “extraordinary broad range of talent, experience and expertise”

News / Sat 11th Apr 2026 at 10:05am

THE LEADER of Harlow Labour has issued a statement as they begin their local election campaign.

Councillor James Griggs said: “Today our candidates for the District and County elections were announced and I’m delighted that Harlow Labour are able to put forward a team of people with such an extraordinarily broad range of talent, experience and expertise who are well connected to the communities they stand ready to serve.

Over the coming weeks, as we are every week, we will be out in the community meeting residents and sharing our ideas for the future of our town.

Bringing our communities together rather than dividing them, presenting hope and unity rather than stirring up fear and hatred, promoting and celebrating rich diversity and shared ambitions rather than isolating and blaming minorities.

“I look forward to welcoming our candidates as Councillors joining the hard working Labour group I have the privilege to lead”.

The bit I agreed with: "Bringing our communities together rather than dividing them, presenting hope and unity rather than stirring up fear and hatred, promoting and celebrating rich diversity and shared ambitions rather than isolating and blaming minorities." However, I nearly cracked a rib laughing at the headline.

If David is so smart, on here day after day, why doesn't he stand himself? Im sure he'd win handsomely with his range of expertise.

It’s our politicians that have created our divided community

Mike Harlow, I've already been a Labour councillor and referred to it in past comments.

Harlow Labour ruined Harlow before

The local Labour Party set Harlow back 30 years when they were in power. Their flagship project was the infamous plant pots and table tennis tables for the drunks to sleep on in Market Square. If they truly cared about Harlow, they should step aside and remain in opposition and let the Local Tories finish the job.

Harlow Labour has a very talented team?????? Must be the most elusive talent on the planet. Decades of decline a when they ran the administration. They are devoid of any plans. I have received about 6 well presented and informative leaflets from the Local Conservatives and absolutely nothing from Labour's "very talented team". Says it all. They couldn't present an alternative budget for three years running and this year just voted for the Conservative budget. They offer nothing for Harlow other than hot air. They are a complete shower!

I think people are being unfair on Labour. I heard that one of them can balance on one foot without falling over. A true talent

Guy Flegman 🤣🤣 Did the person making that assertion provide you with video evidence. Forgive but I remain sceptical! Also, judging by the social skills of the person from Reform Harlow, who knocked on my door today, I don't think they are much better.

Labour are terrible for Harlow as a local council due to their inability to govern. Zero ideas about budgets, no plans and when previously in the driving seat in Harlow, they ruined our town. Reform have zero experience, are riding on the National popularity, but do not know how to deliver. I think Conservatives are the only choice as they have done well whilst in power and certainly invested in the town with clear plans. Conservatives with a spluttering of independents would be good for progression, continuity and challenge.

Labour Harlow is devoid of ideas and an embarrassment to itself in the chamber. This makes it all too easy for the Tories to look good in comparison, a low bar which is a danger to local democracy. Re the Tories, you cannot safely rely on so called “experience” as the key determinant of who should govern as there has to be accountability and if Labour can’t fulfil the role of a critical friend, then let’s get Reform UK to do it.

Scott H says Reform will be a "critical friend" to the Conservative council administration. With so many washed up Conservatives in Reform, like Mark Gough, it's getting hard to recognise where the Conservatives end and Reform begins. Plus, we have local Reform councillor Paul Jago failing to offer an alternative to the council's budget and then voting for it. I would say it would be a photo finish in the Clueless Stakes between Labour and Reform.

Mr Forman - if I said our intention was to kybosh the Conservatives' agenda you wouldn't be happy either. Many councils which are NOC function well if the relationships are managed in a grown up way. The petty point scoring that we see from clueless Labour in the chamber is a lesson on how NOT to do things. As for Cllr Jago, he is an effective and tireless champion for his ward's residents, not a show-boater like some in the chamber.
