Get protected from Covid-19 this spring

Health / Mon 13th Apr 2026 at 10:09am

THE NHS in Essex is encouraging eligible residents to book their Covid-19 spring booster vaccinations when the programme launches next week.

If you’re aged 75 and over, or have a weakened immune system, you’re at higher risk of serious illness. With Covid-19 still circulating, your protection can fade over time and a booster vaccination helps top up your protection when you need it most.

The 2026 spring boosters are available from Monday 13 April to those most at risk of serious illness, including:

  • adults aged 75 years and over
  • residents in care homes for older adults
  • individuals aged 6 months and over with a weakened immune system

The NHS will contact people who are eligible, or they can book an appointment through the NHS App, online, or by calling 119.

Dr James Hickling, Deputy Medical Director at NHS Essex, said: “As we move into longer days and warmer weather, we want everyone to be able to go out and enjoy a healthy and happy time with family and friends.

“Getting the Covid-19 spring booster vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and others against serious illness, reduce the risk of hospitalisation and provide extra protection for people who have underlying health conditions.”

Vaccinations for eligible residents are available via your GP practice, with some pharmacies offering walk-in appointments.

Why is it the over 75s who are offered this every time? Is no-one younger at risk?

The information is incorrect because doctors surgeries are not giving the Covid vaccines this time. Apparently it’s not cost effective. Only a few select pharmacies are doing the vaccine, and for someone like me,disabled with no transport,it will be difficult to get. Followed the link on the NHS email and the nearest for me is the big Tesco. So not cost effective for me!

Suswus, all part of Wes Streeting's 10 year plan to hand more NHS work to the private sector. Proves Labour are just another bunch of privatisation friendly Tories.

True. PAH have outsourced blood tests to the private sector, which is why it’s moving to the Harvey Centre. Another place that’s difficult for me to get to.
