THE Harvey Centre team recently returned to Pets’ Corner in Harlow Town Park to support the much-loved community farm through a hands-on volunteering initiative, continuing its commitment as a proud sponsor of the attraction.

Over two days, members of The Harvey Centre Management and Soft Services Team worked alongside the Pets’ Corner staff, taking part in a wide range of activities designed to support the welfare of the animals and the upkeep of the site.

The team rolled up their sleeves to deep clean several animal enclosures, including the duck pen, which was thoroughly jet washed, alongside additional pen cleaning. Volunteers also mucked out the alpaca, llama, pig, rabbit and guinea pig enclosures, helping to maintain a clean and comfortable environment for the animals.

As part of wider enrichment efforts, the team wheelbarrowed and relocated a large pile of soil into the llama paddock to create a raised mound for the animals to enjoy. They also cleaned the glass panels of the meerkat enclosure, helping to improve the visitor experience.

Animal welfare remained a key focus throughout the volunteering days, with the team preparing feed for all animals across the farm for both the evening and morning feeding rounds. Volunteers also deep cleaned and helped repaint the feeding shed, ensuring essential working areas remained safe and well-maintained.

Supporting the farm’s infrastructure, Will from The Harvey Centre’s Maintenance Team assisted with several electrical issues on site, including repairing a heat lamp in the meerkat enclosure that had stopped working.

Pets’ Corner is home to a wide variety of animals, including rabbits, chickens, pigs and ducks, alongside more exotic residents such as meerkats, llamas, alpacas and reindeer. The farm remains a popular destination for local families and visitors throughout the year.

Bryan Young, Centre Manager at The Harvey Centre, said: “We are incredibly proud to continue supporting Pets’ Corner through our volunteering initiatives. The team thoroughly enjoyed getting involved and helping with the day-to-day running of the farm. From caring for the animals to improving the facilities, it was a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Pets’ Corner is a fantastic community asset to Harlow Town, and we look forward to continuing our support in the future.”

Pets’ Corner is open seven days a week* from 11.00am to 4.30pm. *Opening hours may vary seasonally.
