August 1915: The Harlow men who gave their lives at Gallipoli

GallipoliPrivate Victor George Parish

Victor lived at Hobbs Cross and Threshersbush.

He enlisted and served with The 1st Battalion of The Essex Regiment. Victor killed in action on August 6th at the age of 18 and is buried in Twelve Tree Copse Cemetery, Helles, Gallipoli.

Private Henry George Searle

Henry lived in Fore Street. He married Elizabeth Masson in 1903. The 1911 census shows that henry’s wife and children were residing in the Epping Union workhouse.

From The Essex Regiment. Henry was killed in action on Aug 6th aged 37.

A/Sgt Sidney William Cowlin

Sydney resided in Bury Road, Old Harlow. He worked as a joiner. Served with The Essex Regiment. Killed in action on Aug 19th 1915 aged 24.

Private Ernest Edward Cordell

Ernest lived in Foster Street. Joined Essex Regiment. Killed in action on August 20th aged 26.
Commemorated on the Helles memorial to the missing.

Private Arthur Henry Brown

From Mill Street. Enlisted in The Essex Regiment and was killed in action on August 20th aged 23.

Commemorated on the Helles memorial to the missing.

Lance Corporal Frederick Reginal Wakeling

From High Laver. Enlisted in Harlow and served with Essex Regiment.
Died of his wounds at sea on August 22nd aged 21.

Commemorated on the Helles memorial to the missing.

Lance Sgt Bernard Dickinson Wheeler

From London Road. Bernard was a carpenter. With the Essex Regiment. Arrived in the Balkans on August 12th and was killed in action on Aug 23rd aged 22.

Pte William Charles Page

From High Wych. Enlisted in Harlow and served with the Essex Regiment. He died of his wounds at sea on Aug 31st..
Commemorated on the Helles memorial to the missing (Buried at sea).
