Education: Secondary / Fri 22nd Jan 2016 at 03:43pm

KINGSMOOR Academy is headed in the right direction according to the latest monitoring inspection by Ofsted.
The Academy Transformation Trust (ATT) academy in Harlow was visited by Her Majesty’s Inspector in early December for an interim inspection following their last full inspection which took place in June 2014.

The inspector met with the principal, assistant principals, a group of pupils and two members of the governing body as well as examining safeguarding records and looking at documents including academy achievement information and monitoring records.

Principal, Lesley Brennan, who took up the post in September 2015, was praised in a letter from the inspector which states that she has “injected drive, vigour and urgency into school improvement.”

The letter also recognised the impact of the reorganised leadership structure including the appointment of two new assistant principals who have already had an impact more widely. This includes helping the principal to introduce the expectation that all lessons will include detailed learning targets called ‘must, could and should’ statements.

The academy’s comprehensive programme to monitor and improve teaching and learning was highlighted as well. Teachers have regular feedback and targets to improve their teaching and good practice is shared throughout the academy.

‘Wow’ days have been introduced to make learning more fun for pupils which impressed the inspector.
Governors and ATT were recognised for their support and challenge of academy leaders.
Principal, Lesley Brennan, commented, “We are incredibly pleased that Her Majesty’s Inspector has recognised the progress we have made so far.

“We have high expectations for all of our pupils, we want them to achieve their very best. We want them to feel a strong sense of belonging and to take pride in their achievements.

“There is much more to do but we know what we need to achieve to continue to improve and we believe that once all of our plans are in place we will have what it takes to become ‘good’.

“Thank you to staff, pupils, parents and governors for your continued hard work and support.”
