Chairman of Maypole Club marks out recovery plan

News / Fri 12th Jul 2013 at 10:41am

pearsonsTHE CHAIRMAN OF The Maypole Club, Jeff Boucher has marked out his plan to help as many organisations as possible that use the London Road club.

In a letter to Harlow MP, Robert Halfon. He said:

“I notified the Manager of the club, and the assistant manager, that the club was being closed at 9am Tuesday morning. This was following a conference call with Pearsons and Synthomer at noon the previous day. I was told that the companies were surrendering the lease of the Maypole back to Newhall following a settlement payment to themselves and a condition was vacant possession. After notifying as many of the staff as possible via telephone calls we then proceeded to try and sort out what we could do for the members, any forthcoming functions and the football teams who would all be left homeless by this decision.

So what have we done? A wedding reception scheduled for Saturday has been re routed to the Paringdon Club, an elderly gentleman’s Sunday lunch party for 70 guests has now been re routed to Pearsons who are facilitating the event, a massive brain cancer fundraising event has been re routed to Paringdon along with a company fun day. All other events we have been trying to cover with the very welcome assistance of Paringdon – some they unfortunately cannot host, but we have suggested other venues and are striving to help the people concerned. Everybody has been re funded any monies paid but in addition we are still trying to help.

I have spoken to the Chairman of Langley Rangers Junior Teams who currently use our pitches and again I have obtained a place for all of their teams at Paringdon. This obviously is subject to their own internal decision making but is a very good solution and one that will cost no more than they currently spend.

Paringdon has also offering all of our members free membership for six months.

From this I hope you can see that we are trying to help all affected parties. I will give any help that I can to staff who are looking for new jobs.
